The Mets completed a winning road trip as they pounded out a
season high tying 17 hits ...as they beat the Marlins Sunday afternoon in Miami
11-5. The Mets take 3 of 4 from their division rivals. The Mets jumped all over Marlins starter
Anthony DeSclafani for 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings. The Mets scored twice in the 2nd
and 3rd innings and four times in the 4th, they added 4
more runs off Jacob Turner in the 7th to ice the victory. Jonathon Niese was the beneficiary of the run
support going 6 innings allowing 6 hits 3 runs (all earned) while walking 2 and
striking out 4. Niese was sailing along until the bottom of the 6th
when the Marlins got to him for 3 runs on 4 hits. Niese got out of the jam striking out Derek
Dietrich. Offensively for the Mets Curtis Granderson and Lucas Duda each had 3
hits, Daniel Murphy had 2 hits including his 6th homer and 3 RBI.
David Wright went 2 for 4 with an RBI and pushed his mini-hitting streak to 6
straight games. Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2
for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, Ruben Tejada and Niese added RBI, Anthony
Recker went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Eric Young Jr. had 2 RBI as well. Niese gets
the win he’s now 4-4. The Mets improve
to 35-41 on the season and 19-21 on the road. Monday is an off day. Tuesday the
Major league leading Oakland A’s come to town.
Bartolo Colon (7-5 3.88), Scott Kazmir (9-2 2.08) goes for the A’s.
