Friday night at PNC
Park Josh Harrison hit a double over Curtis Granderson’s reach in the bottom of
the 11th inning scoring Clint Barmes from 1st base. The
Pirates win their 2nd straight against the Mets 3-2. For the Mets it’s
their 3rd straight loss. The game winner came an inning after Jenrry
Mejia did some heavy lifting. In the
bottom of the 10th Harrison led off with a single, stole second and
then on a come-backer to Mejia got caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. Harrison
was called safe at 3rd despite going out of the baseline. That gave
the Pirates 2nd and 3rd with no outs and then after a
strikeout and an intentional walk to Andrew McCutchen , Mejia struck out Neil
Walker and got Russell Martin to fly out to escape the jam. The game started as
a duel between Jacob deGrom and Brandon Cumpton . The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th
on a 2 run double by the red hot Lucas Duda. In the bottom of the 4th
the Bucs tied it on a two run single by Jordy Mercer. deGrom went 6 2/3 allowing 5 hits 2 runs
(earned) he walked 3 and struck out 4.
The Mets got excellent relief from Josh Edgin, Jeurrys Familia and Mejia
. Vic Black pitching in Pittsburgh for the first time since his trade got the
loss and falls to 1-2. Offensively for
the Mets Travis d’Arnaud went 3 for 4
and now has now hit in every game since his recall. Daniel Murphy went 2 for 5.
With the loss the Mets fall to 19-23 on the road and 36-44 overall. Saturday
afternoon is game three of the series, Jonathon Niese (4-4 2.78) goes for the Mets, Gerrit Cole
(6-3 3.64) goes for Pittsburgh.
