BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Greg Peavey makes his tenth start of the season and first against Reading. The Vancouver, Washington native is coming off back-to-back wins,. That includes allowing just one run in eight innings in a 6-1 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Wednesday, June 18. He’s made three straight starts for the B-Mets since spending three weeks with Las Vegas (AAA). He lost all three starts and tallied a 15.09 ERA with the 51’s. However, Peavey hasn’t lost with Binghamton since April 14 against the Portland Sea Dogs. The Oregon State product was taken by the Mets in the 6th round of the 2010 draft.
READING STARTER: RHP Severino Gonzalez makes his league-leading 16thstart of the season and first against Binghamton After starting the season 3-1, the righty is 1-7 since May 6. That includes five straight losses. Gonzalez gave up three runs in 5.1 innings in his last outing, a 3-2 loss to the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday, June 19. Despite the negative results, the native of Santiago, Panama has allowed more than four earned runs in a start just three times. He was signed as a free agent on April 27, 2011.
BRIAN DOES IT...AGAIN: Brian Burgamy tallied his third multiple-home run game of the season on Monday. The switch hitter smashed a two-run shot in the second inning and a solo long ball in the fourth. He has three of the four multi home run games of the season for Binghamton. He accomplished the feat on April 11at New Hampshire and on June 11 at Akron. Burgamy leads the team with 13 home runs.
LOOKIN’ GOOD, LAGARES: New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Monday night. He is recovering from a right intercostal strain suffered on June 1 against Philadelphia. He is the third Met to rehab in Binghamton this season, joining C Travis d’Arnaud and OF Eric Young, Jr.
EXTRA! EXTRA!: Neither Binghamton nor Reading were settling for singles on Monday. The teams combined for 13 extra-base hits, including six doubles, one triple and six home runs.
RUNNING IN PLACE: Despite winning 12 of their last 14 games, Binghamton hasn’t been able to make up much ground in the standings. Before the current hot stretch, the team was 8.5 games back of first place Portland. However, thanks to a hot Sea Dogs team, that deficit has only been trimmed to six.
HOME COOKING: With Monday’s win, Binghamton improves to 27-13 at NYSEG Stadium. That puts them in a tie for the second best home mark in the Eastern League. The B-Mets have won six of seven in the Southern Yier. They’ve outscored opponents by a mark of 42 to 17 during that stretch.
TAKE YOUR BASE: The B-Mets have walked 261 times this season, only one off of the league lead. The team has a good chance of adding to that total against the Fightin Phils. Reading has issued the most free passes in the league. That includes walking six Binghamton batters on Monday night.
