St. Lucie, Fort Myers Game Delayed

Thursday’s game between the St. Lucie Mets and Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium was suspended in the fifth inning inning due to thunderstorms.

The Mets were batting with one out and trailing the Miracle 3-2 when the game entered a weather delay.

The game will be resumed at 5:05 p.m. on Friday and is scheduled to go nine innings.

After the conclusion of the resumed game, the Mets and Miracle will play a seven inning contest to finish the three-game series.

The Mets got on the board in the second inning. Gavin Cecchini led off with a double against Tim Shibuya and moved to the third on fly out by Maikis De La Cruz. With two outs, Eudy Pina grounded to third baseman Tyler Grimes who threw off line to first, allowing Cecchini to score.

The Miracle answered right back in their half of the second. Cory Mazzoni, who was added from the Las Vegas disabled list before the game, gave up a hit, a walk and another hit to load the bases with no outs. Grimes grounded into a fielders choice that brought in a run to tie the game 1-1.

Aderling Mejia followed with a double to deep left that plated Max Keppler to make it 2-1. Grimes was thrown out at the plate on Cecchini’s relay throw to Cam Maron.

Mejia advanced to third on the throw home and came in to score on Niko Goodrum’s infield single with two outs to make it 3-1.

Pina got a run back in the fifth when he popped his sixth homer of the year, a solo shot to left that cut the deficit to 3-2.

After Gilbert Gomez struck out, L.J. Mazzilli came to the plate and had a 1-2 count when the game was delayed. - team press release
