St. Lucie 10 - Jupiter 6

The St. Lucie Mets clubbed 19 hits and beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 10-6 in a rain-shortened game at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday.

The game entered a weather delay with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Play did not resume.

The 19 hits were one shy of a season high. Eudy Pina and L.J. Mazzilli laced two doubles apiece. Pina, Gavin Cecchini and Maikis De La Cruz had three-hit games.

The only Mets without multi hit games were Jairo Perez and Aderlin Rodriguez. However, Perez had three RBIs and Rodriguez was scheduled the leadoff the ninth which never came.

The Mets tagged Jake Esch with four runs in the second inning. Gilbert Gomez, Pina and Cecchini lined run-scoring doubles in the frame.

Jupiter snapped a 39 inning scoreless streak when Domingo Tapia threw a wild pitch that allowed Matt Juengel to score in the second. The Hammerheads cut the lead in half  on an RBI ground out by Noah Perio later in the frame.

De La Cruz put the Mets up 5-2 with his second RBI single in the third. Mazzilli doubled to left to plate Pina in the fourth and Perez followed with a sac fly to make it 7-2.

Mazzilli collected his second RBI double in the eighth off of Brad Mincey. Perez then singled home two runs to put the Mets up 10-4.

Colin Moran cut the Hammerheads deficit to 10-6 with a two-run homer off of Seth Lugo in the eighth, but a severe thunderstorm ended any hope of a rally for the Hammerheads.

Jupiter lost its ninth consecutive game. The Mets improved to 6-1 on the road against the Hammerheads.

Tapia picked up his third win of the season. He gave up seven hits and three runs in five innings.

Esch suffered the loss. He gave up 13 hits and seven runs in four innings. - team press release

Great to see Mazzili, McNeil and Cecchini combine for 7 hits so soon after their promotion. Tapia had just 1K...those low K totals are quite puzzling. But good he got the win.
