June 25th 2014 -- A's 8, Mets 5

What a difference a night makes. Wednesday night at Citi Field, the A’s jumped all over Zach Wheeler scoring 6 times in the first 2 innings the A’s go on to beat the Mets 8-5. Wheeler fresh off his 3 hit shutout got a rude awakening. In the top of the first Brandon Moss connected for a two run homer (18) and it was 2-0  A’s. In the top of the 2nd Coco Crisp added an RBI single and then Yoenis Cespedes hit a 3 run double to make it 6-0. In the 3rd Wheeler was replaced with Dana Eveland. Eveland pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 run that was a solo homer by Crisp, his 6th on the year. The A’s last run came in the 7th off Gonzalez German when A’s starter Brad Mills hit into a double play that brought home the 8th run. Mills was terrific lasting till the 7th inning when pinch hitter Lucas Duda hit a three run homer (11) to knock Mills out of the game. In the 8th after Curtis Granderson hit a 2 out double, Chris Young hit a 2 run homer (7), his 3rd homer in 2 nights to bring the Mets to within three. Wheeler lasted 2 innings allowing all 6 runs (earned) on 6 hits he walked 2 and struck out 4. He takes the loss falling to 3-8.  Curtis Granderson is red hot, going 3 for 4 on the day.  Granderson who at the end of April was batting .126 is not batting .242. Eric Campbell and Ruben Tejada each had 2 hits in the losing cause.  Mills gets the win he’s 1-0. With the loss the Mets fall to 36-42 on the year and 17-21 at Citi Field. New prediction...if Chris Young keeps hitting 3 homers every two games, he may lead the team in that category by season's end. Seriously, this surge by him at a treacherous time for him muddles up the OF picture. Duda emerging as a force? Or just a hot streak?
