The Binghamton Mets scored six runs in the first two innings and six more in the last two frames to blast the Bowie Baysox, 12-4, on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium. The B-Mets pounded out 13 hits to earn their fourth straight win and tenth in the last eleven games.
Binghamton started their attack on Bowie starter Jake Pettit in the first. Brian Burgamy extended his hitting streak to seven games by depositing a one-out double into the right-field alley. Matt Clark followed by blooping an RBI single behind second, putting the B-Mets on the board.
The Baysox responded against Hansel Robles in the bottom of the inning. After a one-out walk to Niuman Romero, Major League rehabber Nolan Reimold smoked an RBI double off the center-field wall, tying the game at one.
The B-Mets responded emphatically in the second after Pettit opened the door by walking the first two batters. Xorge Carrillo cashed in on the free passes by roping an RBI single into left. Dilson Herrera doubled Binghamton’s lead by punching an RBI single into right.
Following a sacrifice fly from Kyle Johnson, TJ Rivera chased Pettit from the game by stroking a run-producing single to right. Clark greeted reliever Jason Gurka with an RBI groundout to short, capping the five-run inning.
Reimold dug into Binghamton’s lead again in the third. Robles walked Romero to start the inning and paid for it when Reimold launched a two-run homer off the video board in left field, trimming the B-Mets advantage down to three.
Robles shook off the homer and battled his way through five innings. Despite needing 72 pitches to get through the first three frames, the B-Mets righty made himself eligible for the win by retiring the final seven batters he faced.
Bowie took one more chip out of Binghamton’s lead in the seventh against reliever Randy Fontanez. After tossing a scoreless sixth in his Double-A debut, the righty surrendered a triple to KD Kong and a run-producing groundout to Romero. Fontanez walked Reimold, but escaped the inning by inducing Christian Walker to ground out.
With their lead whittled to two, the B-Mets kicked back into gear offensively in the eighth against Chris Petrini. Lawley ripped his eighth home run to start inning and Carrillo went deep with a two-run shot later in the frame. Binghamton wrapped up their monster night with three more runs in the ninth against Juan Morillo.
Robles (5-4) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks to pick up his second straight win. Pettit (4-6) was tagged for six runs on six hits and two walks in his shortest outing of the season.
POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton chased a starter from the game after only 1-1/3 innings for the second time in three games (Richmond’s Jack Snodgrass, June 18)…Brandon Nimmo singled in the ninth inning for his first career Double-A hit…Dilson Herrera went 3-for-5 with two RBI…Xorge Carrillo drove in a season-high four runs
