Tuesday night the Mets behind four homeruns and sterling
pitching by the red hot Bartolo Colon beat up on Oakland A’s winning easily
10-1. For the Mets it’s their second game in a row scoring 10 runs or more, it
was the first time they’ve done that since 2011. The A’s coming in had the best
record in baseball. They got off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st
on a RBI double by Yoenis Cespedes off Colon and believe it or not, the A’s
offense was done for the night. The Mets pounded out 12 hits as they scored
three runs in the 3rd, four runs in the 4th a run in the
5th and 2 in the 6th to cap the laugher. In the 3rd
Eric Campbell hit a double then scored on a 2 run homer by Curtis Granderson,
his 10th and it was 2-0 Mets. Then Chris Young, who’s been rumored
to be on the chopping block when Juan Lagares comes back, made it back to back
homers with a solo shot (5) to make it 3 nothing Mets. In the 4th,
Travis d’Arnaud fresh back from tearing up the Pacific Coast league hit a long
3 run homer (4) to make it 7-1 and the route was on. In the 6th
Young made another statement with his 2nd homer on the game and 6th
on the year to make it 8-1. Daniel Murphy and David Wright drove in runs in the
7th to cap the scoring. Colon went 8 strong allowing just 4 hits 1
run (earned) 1 walk and 8 strike outs. He continues to roll and is now 8-5 on
the year as his ERA drops to 3.67.
Former Met Scott Kazmir had his homecoming and he was racked for 7 runs
(all earned) on 8 hits in 3 innings. He falls to 9-3. Granderson and d’Arnaud let the way with 3 RBI’s
apiece as every player in the Met starting 9, including Colon had hits. Vic
Black pitched a 1-2-3 9th to end the game. With the win the Mets now
stand at 36-41 and 17-20 at home. Wednesday the Mets look to sweep this 2 game
mini-series. Zach Wheeler (3-7 3.93)
fresh off his 1st major league shut out goes for the Mets. Brad
Mills (0-0 4.50) goes for Oakland.
