Binghamton 8 - Altoona 2

The Binghamton Mets racked up 13 hits, including a half-dozen for extra-bases, in an 8-2 victory over the Altoona Curve on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Every B-Met starter, including pitcher Tyler Pill, collected at least one hit in the club’s 14th win in the last 17 games. Kyle Johnson led the offensive charge with three RBI on three hits, finishing a home run shy of the cycle.

Binghamton jumped out to the early lead in the first. Johnson greeted starter Adrian Sampson by lining the second pitch of the game into center for a single. The B-Mets leadoff hitter moved to third on Dilson Herrera’s single and scored the game’s first run on a groundout by Brian Burgamy.
After coming up empty on a pair of threats in the second and third, Binghamton used a two-out push to break through in the fourth. Darrell Ceciliani started the rally by bouncing a double off the right-field wall. Xorge Carillo followed with a walk and Tyler Pill loaded the bases on an infield single to first. Johnson chased all three home by threading a triple down the right-field line, kicking Binghamton’s lead to 4-0.

Pill sailed through his first four innings without allowing a run. He needed just 48 pitches to navigate the stretch and nullified the only threat my stranding two runners in the third inning. Altoona finally got to the righty in the fifth. Andy Vasquez pulled a triple down the right-field line and came home on a groundout by Jarek Cunningham.

Binghamton broke the game open and chased Sampson from the game in the seventh. Following Pill’s leadoff single, Herrera ripped an RBI double to the left-field corner. Burgamy deposited a run-producing two-bagger to center, ending Sampson’s night. Dustin Lawley greeted reliever Quinton Miller by blasting a two-run homer to left-field. His tenth long ball of the season gave Binghamton an 8-1 lead.

The Curve carved out their final run of the game against Pill in the seventh, his final inning of work. With one aboard, Willy Garcia laced an RBI double into left. Pill collected one more out before ceding to the bullpen to take it the rest of the way.

Pill (6-5) allowed two runs on five hits over 6-2/3 innings. The righty issued no walks and struck six while extending his unbeaten streak to nine games. Sampson (5-5) was tagged for seven runs on eleven hits over 6-1/3 innings.
