August 22nd 2014 -- Dodgers 6, Mets 2

Friday night in Los Angeles, Curtis Granderson led off the game with a solo home run (16), after that it the Dodgers took control as they beat the Mets 6-2.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well, but thanks to some surprisingly shoddy fielding he left the game in the 7th trailing by 4 runs.  Dee Gordon’s RBI single in the third tied the game at 1.  In the 5th Dodger pitcher Dan Haren’s RBI single made it 2-1.  In the 7th the Dodgers scored 3 times.  A throwing error by Wilmer Flores allowed Gordon to score. Against Carlos Torres Matt Kemp doubled in 2 runs to make it 5-1. In the 8th former Met Justin Turner and A.J. Ellis hit back to back doubles to make it 6-1.  Niese went 6 2/3 allowing 8 hits 5 runs (only 2 earned) walking 3 and striking out 4.  Niese takes the loss falling to 7-9. Haren went 7 allowed just 3 hits the 1 run and struck out 6 to improve to 11-10.  The Mets added their final run of the game in the top of the 9th on a sac fly by Lucas Duda off Jamey Wright. Offensively for the Mets Juan Lagares led the way snapping a 0-14 slide going 2 for 3.  Duda drove in his 70th RBI on the year.  The Mets infield committed 4 errors; 2 by Flores, 1 by David Wright and Duda.  The loss drops the Mets to 60-69 on the year and 30-38 on the road.  Saturday night is game two of the series. Jacob deGrom (6-5  2.87) returns to the mound for the Mets. He faces Zach Greinke (12-8  2.75)
