The Binghamton Mets used a three-run eighth inning to top the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-1, on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. Dustin Lawley’s double drove in Jayce Boyd for the go-ahead run. The win was the fifth straight for the B-Mets.
Binghamton crossed the plate first in the fourth against Taylor Rogers. T.J. Rivera doubled with two outs and came around to score on a Lawley RBI single to put the home team in front, 1-0.
New Britain got revenge in the sixth against Rainy Lara. Jorge Polanco singled, Nate Hanson walked and Mike Gonzales singled in back-to-back-to-back at-bats to load the bases for Ronny Rodriguez. He skied a pitch to centerfield to score a run and tie the game at one.
The B-Mets took the lead back in the eighth. Edgar Ibarra hit Boyd with a pitch to start the frame. The lefty surrendered a single to Rivera to put two on for Lawley. The slugger doubled to score the go-ahead run. After a ground out, Tovar hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Rivera. Kyle Johnson then legged out an infield single that brought Lawley home all the way from second for the 4-1 Binghamton advantage.
Lara tied a season-high with 7-2/3 innings and surrendered just one run, but didn’t factor into the decision. Chase Huchingson (4-1) got the final out in the eighth to keep the Rock Cats at bay. Ibarra (1-1) gave up three runs on three hits in the eighth. Cody Satterwhite worked a scoreless ninth for his 15th save.
