August 28th 2014 -- Mets 4, Phillies 1

Friday night in Flushing, Grady Sizemore dropped a fly ball by Juan Lagares allowing 3 unearned runs to score, the Mets beat the Phillies 4-1.  The Mets got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single by Travis d’Arnaud.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and was brilliant. He was sailing along, until the 7th when Cody Ashe’s RBI single tied the game at 1. In the 7th the Mets loaded the bases on a walk to Matt den dekker, Wilmer Flores was hit by a pitch and Eric Campbell walked. Lagares’ pop up kicked off Sizemore’s glove scoring den Dekker and Flores. Then the Mets pulled off a delayed double steal with Lagares taking second and Campbell stealing home to make it 4-1. deGrom went 7 allowing just 4 hits 1 run (unearned) he walked 2 and struck out 5. Jeurys Familia pitched the 8th and Jenrry Mejia pitched the 9th notching his 20th save.  deGrom improves to 7-6 on the year and lowers his ERA to 2.94. David Buchanan pitched very well in the loss for Philly allowing just 1 run in 6 innings. Jake Diekman takes the loss in relief for Philly. The game was the MLB debut of Dilson Herrera. He went 0-3 with a strikeout and committed his first major league error in the 9th.. The Mets improve to 63-72 on the season and are now 32-34 on the year. Saturday night is game 2 of the 3 game set. Bartolo Colon (12-10  3.82) goes for the Mets,  Jerome Williams (4-5  5.42) goes for Philadelphia.
