Thursday night at Citi Field, Mike Minor had a perfect game
into the 5th inning. The Braves beat the Mets 6-1. Minor and Jonathon Niese hooked up in a
pitching duel for most of this one. The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the top of
the second when Minor connected with an RBI single to score Andrelton
Simmons. Minor was perfect until Lucas
Duda led off the bottom of the 5th with a line single over the glove
of a leaping Simmons at short. In the 7th,
the Braves got to Niese as he tired, Minor led off with a double, and then was followed by an RBI triple by Emilio Bonifacio and a RBI
single by Freddie Freeman. The Mets
scored their only run of the game in the 8th when Eric Campbell
singled home Travis d’Arnaud who had doubled.
The Braves capped the scoring off Daisuke Matsuzaka in the 9th
with a 2 run homer by Ryan Doumit (4) and an RBI single by Bonifacio. Niese takes the loss falling to 7-10. He went
7 allowed 8 hits 3 runs (all earned) he walked 1 and struck out 5. Minor gets the win improving to 6-8. The Mets
fall to 10 games under .500 as they drop 2 of 3 to the Braves. They stand at
62-72 and 31-34 at home. Friday night the Phillies come in for a three game
weekend series. Jacob deGrom (6-6 3.13)
goes for the Mets, David Buchanan (6-7
4.21) goes for Philadelphia.
