The Phillies scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th
inning knocking Bartolo Colon out of the box, the Phillie beat the Mets
Saturday night in Flushing 7-2. The game was scoreless till the top of the 5th
when Marlon Byrd connected on a solo homer (25) off Colon to make it 1-0. In
the 6th the Phils pulled away with a 2 run single by Ryan Howard and
RBI singles by Domonic Brown, Carlos Ruiz and Cody Asche and it was 6-0. The
Mets scored their only 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI
singles by Wilmer Flores and Dilson Herrera. For Herrera it was his first major
league hit and RBI. The Phillies scored
their final run in the top of the 9th on a sac-fly by Howard, who
drove in 3 to pace the Phils. Colon went
5 1/3 he allowed 9 hits 6 runs (all earned) He walked none and struck out
2. He takes the loss falling to
12-11. Colon was trying to tie a club
mark for beating an opponent 4 times in a season, but fell short. Jerome
Williams pitched 6 strong innings for Philadelphia notching the win; he’s now 5-5. The Met offense continues to
sputter, only managing 5 hits on the day. Matt den Dekker led the way going 2
for 4. This three game series is tied at
1. Overall the Mets fall to 32-35 at home and 63-73 on the season. Sunday
afternoon is the rubber game of the series. Dillon Gee (5-6 3.77) goes for the Mets, A.J. Burnett
(7-14 4.30) goes for Philly.
