June 5th 2015 -- Dbacks 7, Mets 2

A.J. Pollock went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, the Diamondbacks beat the Mets Friday night at Chase Field 7-2. The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Michael Cuddyer increased his hitting streak to 10 straight games with a solo homer to left, his 6th the year.  The Dbacks tied it up in the bottom of the third when a throwing error by Niese allowed A.J. Pollock to score. In the 4th Wilmer Flores doubled down the left field line, Ruben Tejada singled, extending his hitting streak to 8 games, making it 1st and 3rd. Eric Campbell then singled home Flores snapping his personal  0-28 slide and it was 2-1 Mets. Niese held the lead until the bottom of the 6th when he was undone by 3 consecutive hits.  Pollock struck a ground rule double to left.  Paul Goldschmidt singled to center scoring Pollock and tying the game. Yasmany Tomas then doubled to left to give Arizona the 3-2 lead.  In the 8th the Diamondback put the game away as 9 Dbacks came to bat. Ender Inciarte led off with a triple to right and scored on a double by Pollock. Aaron Hill’s bloop single with the bases full made it 5-2. Chris Owings sac-fly made it 6-2. A wild pitch by Erik Goeddel brought home run number 7. Niese went 6 innings allowing 6 hits 3 runs (all earned) walking 1 and striking out a season high 8. Jeremy Hellickson was a tad better allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. Niese gets saddled with the loss dropping to 3-6; Hellickson gets the W improving to 4-3. With the loss the Mets fall to 30-26 and 9-18 on the road. The Nationals won Friday night so the Mets find themselves ½ behind in the NL East. Saturday night it’s game 3 of the series. Bartolo Colon (8-3 4.72) goes for the Mets, Chase Anderson (1-1 3.26) goes for the Snakes.

Hitting is a very scarce commodity with this franchise.

A very bad night for a team that needs momentum. Niese pitched well but the bats never showed up.
