Saturday night in Arizona, Wellington Castillo hit a two run
homer in the bottom of the 7th inning; the Dbacks beat the Mets
2-1. The Met offense continues to
struggle as the Met starters continue to dwindle. Friday, the Mets lost Daniel
Murphy to the 15 DL with a tight quad; Saturday Wilmer Flores had to sit with
body stiffness. Juan Lagares supported
Bartolo Colon early with an opposite field homer in the top of the 2nd
for a 1-0 lead. Colon was sharp and looked like he was going to make that
single run hold up tossing 6 scoreless innings.
But in the bottom of the 7th Chris Owings singled and then
Castillo homered to left, his 3rd homer on the year and first as a
Diamondback to seal the victory. Colon
gets the loss but pitched better going 7 allowing 5 hits the 2 runs (earned)
walking 1 and striking out 7. He falls to 8-4 on the year. Chase Anderson went 5 2/3 allowing the 1 run
on 8 hits gets a no decision. Randall Delgado gets the win in relief he’s now
3-2. The Mets did manage 10 hits on the
night with 2 hits apiece by Michael Cuddyer, Lagares and Eric Campbell. Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to 11 games;
Ruben Tejada went 1 for 3 and extends his to 9.
With the loss the Mets fall to 30-27 on the year and 9-19 on the road
and trail this 4 game set 2 games to 1. The Nationals also lost on Saturday so
the Mets still remain ½ game out of first in the NL East. Sunday afternoon it’s game 4 of the series. Jacob
deGrom (6-4 2.41) tries to end the road trip with a win for the Mets, Josh
Collmenter (3-5 5.03) goes for the Diamondbacks.
