6/9/15

Mets Minor League Games - 6-8-15

2 wins on a shortened 2 game slate for the adult teams.
Minor League Player of The Night - Akeel Morris, authenticating his All Star team nod by fanning the side in the 9th.  Get the All Star game over and move him to AA.  Matt Reynolds is back, with 4 screaming hits, 3 nifty runs scored, 2 doubles, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Honorable Mention - the Vegas pen for tossing 5.1 scoreless innings in a come from behind win. Black and Satterwhite K 6 in their 3 innings.  And of course Dom Smith (2 hits, HR). But let's add Travis Taijeron, whose 9th inning homer (his 3rd in 2 games) tied the score for Vegas.

AAA - Las Vegas - (31-28) 5 - El Paso (27-32) 4

    RHSP Logan Verrett - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 3.22

    2B Dilson Herrera - 1-5, 2B, RBI, K, .360

    C - Travis d'Arnaud - 1-5, 2 K, now 7 for 21 in rehab.

SS Matt Reynolds - see above. 8 gm hit streak with 13 hits. 21 doubles this season in just 57 games.

RF Travis Taijeron - 1-4 HR (10), BB, .309. He has just 4 K's in his last 10 games, great to see.  .553 slug %.

The 10th inning victory was the result of a Reynolds double, d'Arnaud single, Monell (.371) walk of the intentional kind, and a force-in walk to Brandon Allen. Exciting.

AA - Binghamton -   no game scheduled

A+ - St. Lucie (29-28) 6  - Daytona (33-24) 4

    RHSP Rob Whelan -  6.0-IP, 5-H, 3-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 3.36

    RHRP Akeel Morris - 1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 11-Saves (11 save opps), 1.53

    1B Dominic Smith -  2-4, 1-R, 1-HR (2), 2-RBI, .270

Kudos to Whelan, who gave up 3 in the first and hung zeros the last 5 innings for the W. Akeel in lockdown mode.

A - Savannah -   no game scheduled

Becerra is so hot, I still think he had 2 his last night, even without a game scheduled.
Rookie - DSL 1- Mets (5-3) 5  -  DSL Red Sox (3-4) 3

    RHSP Edwin German -  3.2-IP, 4-H, 2-R, 1-K, 3-BB, 9.00

    C Juan Uriate  -  1-4, 1-R, 1-HR (1), 3-RBI, .300

    SS Oscar Pasqual  -  1-3, 2-R, .273

Rookie - DSL 2 - Mets (5-3) 4 - Marlins (3-5) 2

7 scoreless relief inning from Merilan and Debora, but not enough offense to overcome a 4 run, 1 IP stint by the starter.

GOAT: Logan Verrett. Little GOAT horns, he was not so bad.

Two doses of Travis (d'A and T) were too much for the Chihuahuas of El Paso.

Good to see Vic Black pitch well.

Akeel Morris this year and last, 86 innings, 132 Ks, 28 hits. Nothing like a 4.7 K to hit ratio.

Tom - notice what happened to Reynolds, pitch wise, as soon as hje was sandwiched by d'Arnaud and Herrera
