Binghamton 7 - Akron 6

Press Release:

AKRON, OH – Peter Alonso blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 7-6, on Tuesday night at Canal Park. The Rumble Ponies scored five unanswered runs, including four in the ninth, to earn their fifth win in six games.

Akron nursed a two-run lead in the ninth and turned to reliever Mitch Brown to face Alonso with two runners aboard. Alonso deposited the righty’s 2-2 pitch deep over the wall in right field pushing Binghamton to a 7-6 lead. The long ball was the slugging first baseman’s fourth on the road trip and fifth in the last six games.

Binghamton trailed by as many as four runs after Akron infielder Bobby Bradley belted a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning. With Joe Sever aboard, Bradley pelted the batter’s eye in center with his third home run of the season to give Akron a 4-2 lead. Akron stretched their lead to four with a two-run seventh inning.

The Rumble Ponies comeback started in the eighth with Kevin Taylor’s two-out RBI double to the right-field alley off Leandro Linares. With Binghamton down by three, Tim Tebow opened the ninth by tripling to left field. Champ Stuart cut the deficit to two runs by roping an RBI single to left. A walk to Patrick Mazeika ended Linares’ night and set the table for Alonso’s heroics.

After Alonso’s blast, Akron outfielder Ka’ai Tom singled to start the ninth and advanced to third with one out, but Eric Hanhold shut the door to seal his third save of the season.

Gerson Bautista (1-0) earned the win with 1-2/3 innings of relief. The Ponies reliever allowed two runs on four hits in the seventh before posting a perfect eighth inning.
Binghamton starter Nabil Crismatt was touched for four runs on six hits over 5-1/3 innings. Crismatt struck out five and walked one in the no-decision.

The Rumble Ponies (12-10) conclude their three-game series against the RubberDucks on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Marcos Molina takes the mound against RHP Shao-Ching Chiang.
