Charlotte 1 - St. Lucie 0

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 3, 2018) – Peter Maris hit a home run in the seventh inning to lift the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 1-0 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at Charlotte Sports Park.

The long ball by Maris came on a 3-1 pitch from Harol Gonzalez to start the inning. Gonzalez, making his fifth start of the season, had blanked the Crabs on 87 pitches through the first six innings. He was taken out of the game after the next batter reached on an error.

The Mets offense could only muster four hits and one good scoring chance. They loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but Charlotte starter Willy Ortiz escaped the jam by striking out Dan Rizzie and getting a ground out from Jacob Zanon.

Ortiz pitched 6.1 innings and scattered three hits. He walked two and struck out four.

Gonzalez gave up just four hits and the one run in six innings to take a tough loss. He walked two and struck out three.

Mets relievers Matt Pobereyko and Joe Zanghi each tossed a scoreless inning.

Stone Crabs reliever Curtis Taylor finished out the final 2.2 innings to get the win.

The Mets went just 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position. The one hit was a laced single by Dale Burdick that was hit too hard for Mike Paez to score all the way from second base.

Andres Gimenez singled in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to six games.

The Stone Crabs won two of the three games in the series. The teams split their six games in the first half.

The Mets (11-15) continue their road trip with a stop in Jupiter against the Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
