The 51s defeated the River Cats, 9-5, in the opener of the brief four-game homestand before a Smith’s Value Menu Monday crowd of 4,418 at Cashman Field.
Las Vegas right-hander Corey Oswalt recorded the victory with a season-high 6 innings pitched. He allowed 8 hits, 3 runs, issued no walks and struck out 7 on 90 pitches (65 strikes).
The 51s, 5-1 over their last six games, hit four home runs and built a 6-1 lead after three innings.
Third baseman Phillip Evans was 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, two runs scored and second Ty Kelly was 2-for-4, walk, triple.
Game two of the series is Tuesday with a special start time of 10:35 a.m. on Smokers Strike Out 15th Annual School Day Game.
