Press Release:
JUPITER, Fla. (May 4, 2018) – The Palm Beach Cardinals cruised to a 4-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Friday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
The Cardinals scored all the runs they needed on back-to-back RBI singles from Andrew Young and Dylan Carlson with two outs in the first inning.
Palm Beach scored its final two runs in the third on a RBI triple from Johan Mieses and another run-scoring single from Young.
All the damage was done against starter Blake Taylor, who otherwise made a solid start. Taylor allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out five, walked just one and induced two double plays.
The Mets scored their only run in the eighth inning. They loaded with bases with no outs and mustered just a run-scoring ground out from Jacob Zanon.
Palm Beach starter Anthony Shew shut out the Mets over seven innings. He scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Will Latcham tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save against the Mets in a week.
For St. Lucie, Andres Gimenez went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Desmond Lindsay had a double and Anthony Dimino tripled.
For the Cardinals, both Young and Carlson went 2 for 4. Young had two RBI.
The Mets (11-16) and Cardinals (16-12) play the middle game of their series on Saturday. First pitch from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is 5:30 p.m.
