Peter Alonso Honored as League Player of the Month

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton Rumble Ponies infielder Peter Alonso has been honored as the Eastern League Player of the Month for April. In 21 games, he hit .408 (31-for-76) with seven doubles, seven home runs, and 19 RBI. He compiled 10 multiple-hit games and posted a .505 on-base percentage with a .776 slugging percentage.

The 23-year-old led the league in batting average, hits (31), extra-base hits (14), total bases (59), on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS (1.282). He was tied for the league lead in home runs and walks. He ranked second in RBI (19).
Alonso, selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Florida, is the Rumble Ponies first-ever Player of the Month winner. He is the first Binghamton player to take home monthly honors since Gavin Cecchini in July 2015.
Alonso and the Rumble Ponies (12-11) return home to open a four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Mickey Jannis takes the mound against RHP Jon Harris.
