The Mack Report - Mike Vasil, Together Again, 7LArmy at Phillies Games, Stanley Consuegra
5. Mike Vasil, RHP, Mets
Age: 23
HT: 6-5 WT: 225
Scouting grades: FB: 55 CB: 55 SLI: 55 CH: 45 CTL: 50 CMND: 50
Stats (Double A): W-L: 0-1 ERA: 2.70 IP: 30 H: 17 BB: 4 SO: 41
Vasil has a four-pitch mix and throws them all for strikes with average major-league command. His fastball is in the 94 to 97 mph range. He has a 12-6 curveball, which I think is his best secondary pitch, although his slider is also a plus pitch and looks more like a cutter at times. His changeup is below average but keeps improving. Scouts like his competitiveness and composure. But the biggest thing they rave about is how much he’s improved his control and command from last year.
It always felt as though both sides were blowing smoke, in a sense. For the final year or two of Lindor’s tenure in Cleveland, there was a ton of posturing. You don’t often hear players speak openly about negotiations or about what they feel they’re worth. And you never hear Cleveland’s front office discuss negotiations on the record. Yet both sides routinely voiced their view of the situation (or, at least, the view they wanted to present publicly).
There was an inevitability to all of this. After all, this organization just recently started handing out $100 million deals, and Lindor seemed destined for a big market the instant the two sides failed to find common ground on a long-term deal after the 2016 season.
While Giménez has endured some struggles and Rosario is a polarizing figure among Cleveland fans, they helped ease the sting of the trade by offering production that guided the club to its surprising breakout last season.
Joe Pantomo - Together again: Mark Vientos, Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty showing Mets what youthful revolution can bring -
In no way is what Vientos, Alvarez, and fellow top prospect and third baseman Brett Baty are doing easy. Entering a veteran-laden clubhouse and taking playing time away from more established players adds to the pressure of performing for an underachieving big-market club.
But the self-assured aura that comes from the trio making their big-league journeys provides immeasurable support.
Kevin Kinkead - Bush League Phillies Once Again Allowing Mets Fan Group to Throw Out First Pitch at Citizens Bank Park -
Barring these doofuses from wearing Mets attire doesn’t change anything. The optics are a joke, total bush league vibes, like something the Arizona Coyotes would do. You’re the Philadelphia Phillies. You shouldn’t be letting a Mets fan throw out the first pitch. Imagine if the Eagles let some Cowboys fan like Scooter Magruder flip the coin, or the Flyers brought in Sidney Crosby to drop the puck, or the Sixers invited Anna Horford to ring the bell.
Eric Samulski - Mets prospect Stanley Consuegra is emerging for the Brooklyn Cyclones -
In 90 plate appearances for the Brooklyn Cyclones year, outfielder Stanley Consuegra has four home runs and is slashing .267/.343/.511 with two stolen bases. He has cut his strikeout rate to a career-low 20.6% and is walking at a 9.8% clip.

Go Stanley.
Vasil a possible SP1, Mack?
I love our recently promoted Trio. I am waiting for the 4th Beatle to arrive….the one hitting .360 with 20 doubles already in 44 games in AAA.
Vasil (whose name, oddly enough, rhymes with "Brazil" with the "z" replaced by an "s") has been rapidly climbing through the system. His most recent outing produced 6 (or 7?) shutout innings, 3 H and 0 BB. If he keeps pitching close to this, he should be in Syracuse by July, and if effective there he could be banging on the Citi door next Spring.
I wish the same were true for our other top-rank pitching prospect, Hamel, who has struggled at Bingo and needs to show a lot of improvement if he's to make it to AAA by the end of the season.
I'm with you there, Tom. If he's promoted, the dominos fall. Squirrel could shift to LF instead of being shuttled back and forth, Canha can be a utility man and #4 OFer, and we can finally shed Pham.
The big question remaining is how to handle the 4 catchers who will be on the roster when Nido and Narvaez complete their rehabs.
Mets could have a few more minor leaguers on the team in the 2nd half of the season besides Mauricio, guys like Vasil and Matt Rudick and relief pitchers like Nunez & Walker
Mack, Cyclones Park strikes again. Consuegra is hitting .188 there, vs. .313 on the road. 125 point differential.
Alvarez and Narvaiz seem like a no brainer. If Sanchez is hi
If Sanchez is hitting maybe keep him and go with 7 guys in BP. But Sanchez hitting is a big if.
I think he has that potential but definitely a 2/3
I suggest they don't try to keep Hamel on the same track as Vasil and let him work on commanding AA this season
Allan is definitely out for the whole season, right?
Until we reach a point where SPs are giving us 6+ IP on a regular basis, cutting the pen is suicidal.
With EE playing more 2nd base and Jeff in LF that maybe the prelude to RM's call up.
Hamel pitched today---3 perfect IP, 4 K. I don't know if he left after 3 due to pitch limit or (hopefully NOT) injury.
