The pitching objectively has sucked.
As Mack noted, the Mets have faced an easy schedule for two months.
They nonetheless sit 24th in ERA at 4.69 against a soft schedule.
24th place pitching teams don’t make playoffs.
Bullpen with Edwin in 2023? 3.55 ERA.
This year, without the Patella Fella, up to 4.15, and seemingly eroding.
Starters? 5.08. Yeah. No misprint. Over 5.00.
The 1962 Mets starters were 5.18.

In AAA, David Peterson fanned 10 in 4.2 innings last night but allowed 6 hits, 5 walks, and 4 runs in that stretch. Ouch. Joey has been OK in AAA, but not lights out. Butto got his butto kicked in his last start. Bundy pitching is immediately promoted as Home Run Souvenir Day. Tony Dibrell got pounded his last outing.
- No immediate, game-changing pitching help in the minors, whatsoever.
I am happy after last night’s 10-7 loss, though. Why?
Alvarez 2 hits, Vientos 2 hits, Baty one hit. The trio were 5 for 13.
Yes, the kids can hit, and Mauricio (single and walk in AAA last night) can too. Call him up.
If you can’t outpitch them, outhit them.
You can’t outhit them when Pham, Vogie, Escobar, Canha, and Nido play.
The team needs a full infusion of Y Positive blood. Youn.231/.250/.389 g blood rocks.
Alvarez is the team’s hottest (already its best?) hitter.
In his last 15 games, .327/.407/.769, 6 HRs, 12 RBIs. (The other Francisco, Lindor, is .231/.250/.389 over his last 15 games, just as a point of fact and comparison.)
Get Alvarez out of the 9 hole, unless you are an A-hole and want to keep him there.

C Nick Meyer has hit like Nido in AAA, but has 4 hits his last 2 games, so we have equivalent catching depth in the minors.
SHAMSKY AND PETE
Pete has had 20 HRs in 197 at bats. Ruthian.
Art Shamsky one season was on a similar pace.
He had 21 HRs in 234 at bats in 1966, early in his career.
That proved to be an aberration for Art, who was an excellent hitter at Shea Stadium in his career. A relatively rare feat.

I know I'm part of a slim minority, but count me in the Nohtami group (if there is one). Not only do I feel that the contract it would take to lure him from the Left Coast would be way over the top, but IMO a SP playing OF between starts is a serious injury waiting to happen.
As for our current pitching, I am willing to throw out the stats to date. Of our original projected rotation, everyone but Senga has spent significant time on the IL. And he's still learning to adapt to the MLB system.
And the replacements have all been lacking, which has put a ton of stress on the pen.
Before passing judgment, let's see how the staff looks when (if?) we have everyone back and pitching every 5 days. Meanwhile, Megill, Lucchesi and Peterson can sharpen their skills upstate, which right now is their appropriate place to be.

I agree, let's build our team around our prospects, both those already on the team and those arriving in future draft signings. If the Braves and Dodgers lose a star player, they bring up a prospect and keep winning. These large, long term contracts we have given older players are hurting us. We have traded prospects for other teams " veterans" who were with us one year and then gone. That has hurt us in having young players who are now ready to come up and contribute to a winning team.
When have we ever called 4 quality prospect bats virtually simultaneously? We’re lucky when we can call up one. Play the kids, very thing else will coalesce.
Another Sh*t show in the Rockies. Dam we score 17 runs in 2 games and lose both and thank you again Mr. Sure HOFer for another miserable start and you would think he'd be embarrassed to collect his paycheck but you'd be wrong. I gotta say the toughest thing about all of this is if we don't make the playoff's we'll be the punchline joke of the 20th and 21st century but of course 62' was a much different situation but the jokes the same and we all know Klapisch is typing as we speak. Please "Billy don't be a Hero" (good song) and force a trade so it looks like your doing something as another trade deadline disaster and the fanbase will surely turn ugly on you.
I wonder if R.A. would consider a comeback like Murph...couldn't hurt. Isn't there some pitcher out there working on a Screwball as we speak? Steve send your scouts around the country and find him.
Gary, there is room for a return to baseball by RA Dickey - I've often thought the same - and, why not...Dillon Gee, the latter being a legit #4 starter back in his playing days if he was on this team.
Maybe deGrom was smart - he has hardly pitched for Texas (on pace for 90 innings), but that team, unlike ours, is doing quite well. If he is healthy come October, maybe they will make some real noise.
