#17 Sean Gamble
SS/OF IMG Academy
(FL)
18/years old
6' 1" 185
COMMITTED - Vanderbilt
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 |
Field: 50 | Overall: 55
A native of Iowa, Gamble used to go to Florida in the summer
with his family so he and his brother Beau could attend tennis -- and then
baseball -- camps at IMG Academy. IMG’s director of baseball recognized his
talent and invited him to come year-round for high school, where he’s been for
all four years. Over that time, Gamble has gotten stronger and his game has
advanced as well, showing off very good skills against premium competition at
various summer showcase events like the Area Code Games and USA Baseball’s 18U
National Team Camp.
Gamble is a left-handed hitter who has a smooth and
repeatable swing with a knack for finding the barrel, controlling the zone and
doing damage to all fields. As he’s gaining strength, he’s showing more raw
power and should continue to leverage the ball and get to more extra-base
authority as he moves along. He had quality at-bats all summer to raise his
profile.
An above-average runner, Gamble saw a lot of time in center
field over the summer and looked good there, with some evaluators leaning
towards favoring him in the outfield, where his athleticism and arm strength
play well. Some don’t want to give up on him on the dirt, though, thinking he
could be an above-average defender at second base and/or be given a shot at
shortstop. The Vanderbilt recruit plays with a little edge to his game and
reminds some of the Phillies’ Bryson Stott.

28. Kansas City Royals*: Sean Gamble, SS/OF, IMG Academy
(Florida)
The Kansas City Royals earn an extra first-round pick thanks
to MLB’s Prospect Promotion Incentive Pick. Since Bobby Witt Jr. finished
second in the 2024 AL MVP voting prior to qualifying for arbitration, the
Royals were awarded the 28th pick. And with that selection, they should take
Sean Gamble, shortstop and outfielder from IMG Academy in Florida. He’s an
above-average runner with raw power, as MLB.com gave him a 55 hit tool.

school prospects entering the spring
8. Sean Gamble, SS/OF, Bradenton (Florida)
Gamble showed a lot of power, that came with some swing and
miss, as an underclassman but has tightened things up in his final two years.
He’s got a great arm and could end up nearly anywhere in the infield or
outfield.

No. 16 Minnesota Twins: Sean Gamble, SS/OF, IMG Academy
The Twins could be moving to a rebuild soon, as the general
manager continues to say they aren’t cutting payroll, but rumors continue to
swirl around high-priced players on the roster, such as Pablo Lopez, Carlos
Correa and Byron Buxton.
Taking a high-upside player in Gamble, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound
SS/OF with speed and raw power, makes sense.
They could take a number of college players who could move
through the system quicker, but if a rebuild is coming, this is the pick.

MLB 2025 Mock Draft 2.0: Predictions for Every 1st-Round Pick
25. San Diego Padres: SS/OF Sean Gamble, IMG Academy (FL)
There are always a handful of Day 1 and Day 2 prospects at
IMG Academy each spring, and Gamble is the best of the bunch heading into the
2025 season. The 6'1", 185-pound has a chance to be a true five-tool
center fielder, though he has also shown the chops to potentially handle
shortstop. His 55-hit, 50-power offensive profile plays up thanks to his
athleticism, and he could continue to climb draft boards this spring after a
strong run on the showcase circuit last summer.

13. Sean Gamble – OF
HT/WT: 6’2/185 | Bat/Throw: L/R | School: IMG Academy (FL) |
Commitment: Vanderbilt | Age: 19
If you’re looking for the best pure athlete in this class,
look no further than Sean Gamble. An Iowa native who resides at IMG Academy,
Gamble is incredibly twitchy on both sides of the ball.
We’ll start at the plate, where he’s got some of the loudest
bat speed and power in this prep class. His hips explode open, allowing his
hands to race through the zone with impressive barrel lag. He’s had exit
velocities with wood up to 108 MPH in-game settings already this summer and
given the frame, it wouldn’t be a shock to see higher numbers.
He has excellent torque and rotation in his swing, though the
hit tool does lag behind a bit. He’s working on refining his approach and has
shown more adjustability to off-speed pitches, displaying a swing that’s more
in control.
In the field, Gamble has the tools to be a potential center
fielder. It’s loud arm strength with excellent range at the “eight” and the
glove has the potential to grade out as above-average or better.
If he is forced out of center, he can handle either corner
outfield position or move back to the infield and stick on the left side of the
dirt. Gamble is part of an uber-talented Vanderbilt recruiting class.

25. Sean Gamble, SS/OF, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla.
Versatile player in the field, but questions remain about his
long-term position. The bat has the potential to be average with average power.
It’s a quality left-handed swing and if he shows continued power with the bat
into the spring, he has a chance to be a first-rounder.

Hometown: Des Moines, IA

becoming more patient, especially on breaking balls. In the field, Gamble has
the tools to be a potential corner outfielder, though his plus speed gives him
a chance in center field with a strong arm.
If the outfield doesn't work, Gamble has seen time in the
infield, projecting best at second or third base. He is committed to
Vanderbilt.
