ON BALANCE, THE METS HAVE BEEN UNLUCKY LATELY
UNLUCKY WITH RISP
The Mets luck seems to have run out with a 1-8 stretch vs. the Rays, Braves, and Phillies.
Part of that lousy luck is their lack of success with runners in scoring position has been well chronicled.
But Joel Sherman wrote a few days ago in the NY Post that the Mets’ BABIP with runners in scoring position is a very low .236, despite having the third highest exit velocities of any team in that situation. Sounds really unlucky to me.
Sounds like that could change for the better at any moment.
When you, though, hit 7 bunker-busting balls over the wall as they did on Saturday, BABIP is a not an issue. You bat 1.000 when those spherical objects clear the retaining barriers.
JUAN SOTO AN ALL STAR?
Soto has been a really unlucky hitter. We have all seen it.
But he is elite.
Elite superstar players go to All Star games.
He is hot. A .500 OBP in his last 15 games through Saturday.
Mets fans must vote for him. Time is running out.
But…
“Fans may vote up to five times every 24 hours until noon ET on June 26. The top overall vote-getter in each league will be named an automatic starter.”
So get off yer duffs and vote.
MEGILL TRASHED UNFAIRLY?
His last start did not go well. Then, he got trashed by many.
Turns out he had a barking elbow, not a brain fart.
Can I get real here? If Montas and Manaea had gotten ready sooner, Megill could have asked to miss a start.
Maybe he would have missed just that one start rather than what appears to be the ensuing 6-8 weeks. LUCKILY…it appears this is not a Tommy John event, but something correctable with rest.
So, if your first impulse is to trash Megill, perhaps it is more high-minded to wait a few days before being an arm chair QB.
Injuries overall? In 2025, not very lucky, as almost every injury seems to knock a player out for months, not weeks.
I did see Mr. Raley tossed a scoreless rehab inning. We may be lucky before we know it.

The pen needs MeGill when he is ready.
Ray I watched Dylan Ross yesterday. Only 23 pro innings, and he is in AAA. But he was u impressive. Could have simply been one bad game.
People on this site are quick to dump on a guy when he’s down. They also get super excited when a so so prospect has a hot week or two.
