HAPPY TIDBITS, EVERYONE
What if you had a pitcher throwing for a poor hitting sub-.500 team, who was doing this so far?
6-4, 1.73 ERA in 104 innings?
A definite Mets Cy Young contender, you’d say.
“Jake deGrom 2019 numbers”, you’d say. Gotta be Jake, right? Nope.
Who?
Ex-Mets Eric Orze (1.24), Mike Vasil (1.99), and Adrian Houser (2.15) comprise those composite stats above.
I know all of you saw that coming, huh?
Anther guy not vying for a Cy Young has a 4.42 ERA in 96 innings in 2025.
His name? Workhorse Luis Severino.
He has pitched like a Cy Young on the road (2-0, 0.93 ERA), but is 0-7, 6.79 at home in that hitters’ park in Sacramento. His favorite tune is Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again, they tell me. “I just can’t wait to get on the road again.”
By my count, those 96 Severino innings are roughly (OK, are exactly) 96 more innings than the two Mets big bucks free agent signings, Manaea and Montas, combined.
Baseball? Is a funny game, huh?
Except….we are not laughing. Orze was the only one I pleaded to be kept.
I wish we had.
BABYLON BEE REPORTS…
After the current rash of injuries, the entire Mets team was sent out to get full body X-rays. No spines showed up in the X rays. The team has been renamed the Queens Jellyfish.
They say that the Mets are a very generous, close knit bunch. Well they generously gave away first place, and are much closer knit now with the Braves, as well.
That 10 game lead over Atlanta after they brutalized the Mets in the 3 game series seems mighty small. Had the Mets swept the Braves, on the other hand, the Braves would have been looking forward to 2026.
No, not really the Babylon Bee….but I do drive thru Babylon a lot, and my cousin Billy lives there. He is an especially cranky Mets fan. Why? Unlike me, he watches every single inning. Which can be hazardous to one’s health.
LAST NIGHT
The Mets continued their “flip-switch” from the best team in baseball to the worst. 7th straight losses, in which they’ve been outscored 1,000,000 to 3.
Tidwell?
How did he look? I was out and missed it. 7 runners allowed in 3.2 IP, but in Philly and just 2 runs. Of course, the pen allowed one of his 2 runs, and had he escaped with just one run, everyone would have been thrilled.
Garrett and Garza later torched the team’s bullpen ERA last night. 3.37 now, slipping rapidly to the 7th best in MLB. 8 earned runs in the final two innings. Geesh.
ON THE FARM
That lefty fella Manaea was excellent in his 62 pitch rehab. Get to Queens for your next start.
Any later, my friend, will be too late. The patient needs CPR RIGHT NOW.
Joel Diaz and Brendan Girton were excellent in Brooklyn’s win last night. Why? They’re good, bro.
Others played, too. Elian Peña is now 2 for 40. DSL pitching is formidable?
PROGRESS, OR LACK THEREOF - YOU DECIDE
Ryan Clifford went 0-5 with 3 Ks last night.
Ryan Clifford in AA in 2024:
98 games, .231/.359/.456, 1.2 Ks per game
Ryan Clifford in AA in 2025:
65 games, .236/.354/.455, 1.2 Ks per game
“I’ll take ‘Lack thereof’ for 100, Alex.”
Meanwhile, Jac Caglianone was drafted last year, had just 315 minor league at bats, then was called up by KCR, and already has 55 MLB at bats. THAT IS PROGRESS.
LINDOR TOE WOES?
He plays on - every day. When he broke his pinky toe a few weeks ago, he sat a game, then lined a 2 run double the next game, then had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and two steals in the next game….against the Rockies. We all thought he was Superman.
Since then, though, he is 5 for 42. Is it the toe? Or just a slump, as the Mets get schlumped daily?

That's what I needed this morning... dredging up past mistakes (which weren't mistakes at the time those decisions were made) at a time like this
I will continue to look forward
Going to the well... TIDwell, that is... two times may have proved he could find success in the Mets pen as a 96mph one inning reliever
Bat wise, I truly agree this will improve soon but I also wish they wound bump up the bat chips from Binghamton and Brooklyn at least one level
Screw their respective all-star games
And you are right...
Teams graduate 20-21 year Olds all time.
Braves seem to do it weekly
Move them up. ASAP. STAT. NOW.
Like I said, I was wrong on Houser (Housing starts are accelerating), and Vasil should warrant a deep dive by Mets brass to see what the White Sox figured out that the Mets couldn’t figure out with him.
Tidwell to the pen? Try it. Whaddya got to lose?
The wheels on the bus go round and ......oh no they've fallen off wow what a sucky week and no help in site. If the big 3 don't hit we really do suck so what to do Mack? Talk about exposed and wonder how DS handles the trade deadline which is always a big issue with us every year so we'll find out what their made of so don't screw this up guys.
Now that you brought up the trade deadline. Please don't panic and trade for Louis Robert. Right now he is Jose Siri making a lot of money. The only way I would take a flyer on him is in a salary dump...that's it.
The only silver lining is that the Phillies and Braves both have had an extensive losing streak and came out of it.
Final thought, if Manaea doesn't come back like last season and Senga return to form...we are screwed. Find a damn reliever...not a reclamation project.
Morning Mr. Positive
Adjustments needs to axels and breaks but no new set of wheels needed yet
11 pitchers on the IR doesn't help here. MONTAS and MANAEA return next week.
Pen is worn out. Help IS needed here.
All-star break can't come fast enough
Bats will get better but have lost confidence in any of the Baby Mets.
Need prospects in both Binghamton and Brooklyn to be
promoted s level YESTERDAY
Probably need two rental bats
My hopes, long term, is the Mets sign Alonso long term plus that Red Sox third baseman that will be a free agent in the off-season
Hi Mack, not sure if you meant Mr. Positive for me or Anonymous...lol. I at least snuck a silver lining response in there.
Agree, pen is shot. That's the problem with a 6 man rotation, one less pen arm.
If Winker returns before 2027, he will be a “rental bat”
99% of anonymous comment makers are negative
Winker was another in a long line of bad DH signings
Kyle Finnegan for relief?
Siri is likely done as a Met, when you read this update from a week ago. Possibly a Sept defensive call up.
“ Had a setback in his rehab after new imaging showed the bone hadn't healed as well as the Mets hoped. Was performing baseball activities, including batting practice, but Mets have paused those and will re-image his leg in late June. Will need a Minor League rehab assignment before activation.”
Winker a week ago: going thru hitting progressions but still MULTIPLE WEEKS AWAY from a rehab stint. WHAT?? Another half-a-season-injury beauty.
Whatever happened to the days of the 2 week disabled list and you’re then reactivated 90% of the time?
11 pitchers on the IL….BUT in 1969 and 1986, the Mets used only 15 pitchers. Whazzup wit’ dat?
Fluoride
Vaccines...lol. And throwing 100 mph at 12 years old.
Vito. The Braves won’t come back from their losing streaks.
