Tom Brennan: Spotlight on…Nick Morabito

EASTERN LEAGUE PITCHERS SINCE MAY 10 WHEN NICK HITS

Nick Morabito, a CF who only turned 22 in May, had a very rough season start in frigid Binghamton.

(Can a human being hit above the Arctic Circle? I guess not).

He heated up towards the end of April, but started out May slowly, going 3 for 23, dropping his average to .210 on May 10.

Since then?

FRIGGIN’ FUEGO!

The rest of May, he went 26 for 67, jumping from .210 to .281.

In the first 19 days of June, he has gone 20 for 60, jumping him up to .295.

That 46 for 127 pace since May 10 is .362, bro.

He hits few HRs, but is averaging a double or triple every 10 at bats, and last year had 26 XBH in 119 games, but this year has 26 in 60 games. Conclusion? Nice upswing in power.

And keep in mind that both Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil were very low homer guys in their first 3 years in the minors.  They’ve hit plenty as Mets.

Nick can add HR power too - he’s only 5’10”, but strong.

He also has 26 steals in those 60 games, getting cut down just 5 times.

Career .301, and it is rare to be in the .300 club.

He also has an amazing 85 steals in his 179 games in 2024 and 2025.

Drooling yet?  I am.

I want this guy in Queens. (Jett, too.)

COME ON, NICK! (COME ON, DAVID!)

Interestingly, I noticed that Nick and Jett are hitting significantly better on the road than at home this year.  So I looked back to 2022, to assess park affect.  Binghamton hitters, it turns out, hit better over that period on the road than at home by more than an insignificant margin.

I surmise (without in depth analysis) that it is another pitcher friendly (hitter unfriendly) park, aptly named Mirabito Stadium.

Tom

You know this isn't going to happen.

Morabito and Williams will finish the season in Syracuse with an outside chance of being a playoff ad.

Oh. WAIT. According to yours and others comments, this team isn't going to make the playoffs this season.

15 games over .500 and a big failure

Would love to see Nick and Jett in center and 2nd. Call me old but I love the running game. Love to see them both promoted to Syracuse soon.

I am disappointed in the team's latest performance. I just call this their annual pre-all-star game stumbles. They will, after the all-star game make the necessary adjustments and make the play-offs.

I have always loved speed and small ball dating not the LAD Lopes, Ceylon days.

Tidwell in Philly against Wheeler? Not a chance.

I have them going 1-2 against the Phillies then 2-2 at home home against Braves

Philly has tough games next week

Mets play Pittsbugh

Will be in 1st place at break

Long way to go.

Yes, I do not think Jett and Nick are ready - yet - but they ARE ready for AAA today. So is Tong. Today. Easily.

And I say that seeing how Gilbert, Tidwell, and Gilbert have struggled in AAA. Nick, Jett, and Tong are superior. (Oh, last night’s Syracuse game was suspended after one inning, which was long enough for Brandon Sproat to pitch like his initials again, allowing a 3 run shot.)

Half our veterans meanwhile are in Veterans Hospitals. Not time to panic. Yet. Maybe by July 1. I see along stretch of .500 baseball ahead.

Where is Jose Siri when you need him? Oh, that’s right, he’s a veteran. I do know where he is.

The Mets must recognize four things...

1. Injuries are killing them

2. Current bats are basically silent

3. Syracuse is void of solutions

4. Binghamton and Brooklyn are loaded

I have no idea why there isn't more movement of chain assets to next level

Vito Suarez from Dbacks would be a good add. Gilbert even up?
