#19 Tre Phelps
OF/3B Georgia
20/years old
6' 2" 197
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 55 |
Field: 50 | Overall: 50
The nephew of former Georgia basketball standout and WNBA
player Angel Robinson, Phelps was the top in-state recruit in the Bulldogs'
2023 class. It took him a couple of months to earn regular playing time as a
freshman but he slashed .353/.441/.699 with 12 homers in 42 games, including a
total of 34 starts at all four infield and outfield corners, as well as DH. He
also was the top performer on the U.S. collegiate national team's four-game
summer tour.
Few players in this class can match Phelps' ability to make
both consistent contact and hard contact. He produces high exit velocities from
the right side of the plate with a combination of bat speed and strength, with
most of his homers landing between the left-field line and center field. He'll
do even more damage if he can tone down his approach because he chases pitches,
puts ones in play that he shouldn't and gets too uphill with his swing when he
sells out for power.
Phelps displays fringy speed out of the batter's box but is
closer to solid once he gets going. Defensively, he moves well in the field and
shows soft hands and a strong, if sometimes inaccurate, arm. He projects as an
average corner outfielder, solid first baseman and perhaps an adequate third
baseman.

21. Houston Astros: Tre Phelps, OF/IF, Georgia
In his freshman season at Georgia, Tre Phelps hit 12 home
runs and 11 doubles with a 1.140 OPS across 42 games. In 161 plate appearances,
he only struck out 15 times but just walked 10 times. Phelps is known much more
for his bat than his glove, so he would most likely end up in a corner
outfielder spot. The Houston Astros need some thump in their minor league
system, and Phelps would easily provide that.

No. 34 Detroit Tigers: Trey Phelps, OF/3B, Georgia Baseball
We get into a weird point in the draft during the comp picks
and balance round picks, as teams who believe they drafted under slot
previously are more likely to over spend on more expensive prep players.
The Tigers double up on college bats in this draft and take
the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Phelps, who hit .353/.441/.699 in 42 games for the
Bulldogs.

MLB 2025 Mock Draft 2.0: Predictions for Every 1st-Round Pick
19. Baltimore Orioles: OF/3B Tre Phelps, Georgia
Phelps gave his draft stock a major boost by playing well for
Team USA last summer, and that came on the heels of a freshman season in which
he hit .353/.441/.699 with 12 home runs in 161 plate appearances. He started
games at both corner infield and corner outfield spots last season, and it
remains to be seen where he will end up long-term, but his ability to make
consistent, hard contact will drive his value.

28. Tre Phelps III – 3B
HT/WT: 6’2/197 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Georgia | Age: 21
A draft-eligible sophomore, Phelps pushed his way into the
Georgia lineup with an impressive performance in a limited sample size,
slashing .355/.442/.686 with 10 home runs.
The first thing that stands out when diving into Phelps’
profile is the exceptional power in the stick. Phelps possesses incredible bat
speed and lofts the ball often, tapping into his above-average to plus raw
juice in-game.
He ambushes fastballs on the regular, posting a contact rate
of 88% on them in 2024, though his spin recognition is a work in progress. With
that said, Phelps rarely struck out at Georgia, though his aggressive nature
meant walks were few and far between.
Defensively, Phelps has the body and instincts to handle the
hot corner, though the speed and arm strength translate well to right field,
too. He’s made strides defensively since his prep days. This is a profile that
can easily sneak into the first round come July.

21. Tre Phelps, OF/3B, Georgia
Another sophomore-eligible college player with a limited
track record, as he didn’t start from day one. With almost as many home runs
(12) as strikeouts (15), there is promise with the bat and he has shown some
positional versatility, playing some second base and outfield.

once again have a player who jumps out with his combination of contact and exit
velocities in Phelps.

42. Tre Phelps, 3B, Georgia Premier Academy (GA) – His proper
name is Edward Phelps III, but naturally goes by the name Tre, Phelps is an
athletic and strong third baseman. He can get up the line and beat out the
occasional grounder, but the line drive swing with healthy hacks is the primary
driver in his game. The ball really jumps although he can pull off the ball
with less than two strikes, he goes from a mild step swing to a no step swing
with two strikes and really battles. He has also shown a loud and fun
personality, suggesting he would be a quality clubhouse guy on top of his
ability on the field.
