IN FOCUS: Roster Moves, Team Starter ERA, Team ERA, Pete Alonso

A couple of things...

1. The lack of production by the Baby Mets has reached the embarrassing stage.  They basically have become three automatic outs almost every time they come to the plate.  This is an area of concern that must be dealt with once midseason trades begin. Other than Mark Vientos, Syracuse is also basically void of potential major league talent here. And, news just another unproductive bat as part of the un-fab four. No time for any more patience here. And you can't keep trying to win games with only your top five hitters in the lineup. They have even lost their trade values.  And don't let one home run and a couple of random hits distract you here. A complete regine change is needed here.

2. It's one thing to rush prospects to the majors. Bigger crowds. More critics. Lots of more snarky reporters. Pro pitchers throwing pro pitches. But... and, a big but... there is far less damage when you promote a minor-league prospect to the NEXT affiliate level. Especially at basically around halfway through their season. They need to giddy-up bats like Jett Williams and Nick Morabito to the next level so the team can more closer to not being found with their pants down like this.

3. Jonah Tong still in Binghamton.  Leading all of minor league baseball with 100-K at one level? Are you kidding me? There was nothing left for this guy to do in that league a month ago. There is only one current starter in Syracuse that shouldn't step aside for this guy and he happened to have also pitched last night. Come on David. This is the least you should do on Sunday night.

4. There also seems to have no solution for a designated hitter this season. I rescind my suggestion on using Ronny Mauricio. There also is no solution in Syracuse here. Should picking up the phone and checking to see if J.D. Martinez is keeping in shape? Let’s face it... that injured dude with the long hair isn't going to solve this problem. I'm sure there will be a rental help here, but, Jared Young??? Again, don't let one homer be happy here.

5. Hats off to Griffin Canning. Sure, it wasn't a perfect outing... too many Philly hits... a wild pitch here and a fielding error by Jeff... but he left this game with both the lead and his head held high. The team really needed this last night.

6. A special shout out to the Big Four and first four up in this lineup, especially Juan Soto, who is proving more every day that he is the current and future face of this team. And while I'm on this subject. gawd I wish the guy hitting next in the lineup was safety in the nest too.

7. We all agree that the pen was both worn out and underpreforming. Well three Mets relievers led by Huascar Brazobán got the job done last night. They also saved the rest of the pen to fight another day.

8. I wake up proud to live in a FREE world.

Mack,
Item # 8, we are all proud to wake up as Americans.
I completely agree the Mets need to move our prospects up and see what we have for the future before we make our trade decisions. A new DH should be in all trade considerations.

Promote Jett and Nick to AAA after Sunday. Both are sizzling.

Promoting Tong to the majors now would be a move that at least several MLB teams. AAA hitters pray that David Stearns inexplicably drags his feet a little more on promoting Tong to AAA.

Vientos 1 for 12 in rehab. Baty is hitting .208. Mauricio is hitting .191. Trade all 3.

I’d rather see Jett on the Mets than those 3 right now, today.

Yesterday overseas was a game changer. Good guys thwart bad guys.

Jankowski?

Moving assets to Syracuse and Binghamton are not going to help the parent club in this race

And diminished trade value of the Baby Mets will make it necessary to trade prospect starters for OF and RP rentals

Mack Ade said...

Tong should have been told the second he left the game to go take a shower and he should have been handed an open phone to Stearns the second he entered the clubhouse

I would promote Jankowski to Syracuse now

Mack, you know who did not pitch as well as Tong in the minors? deGrom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Matz, and Wheeler. Not even close.

Love and respect Mack

But I have repeatedly said there is not harm done to promoting too fast.
You either can or cannot perform at that level.
A hitter faces 98 miles a hour at all levels, sweepers , curves sliders all the above.
All it is is the quality of the pitch
And to me if you got “It” then you can

Braves prove it all the time

Other than that opinion (and it’s mine alone) I do agree you know more than I

Eddie, I agree, especially if the player (e.g., Jett, Morabito) have other strong tools (OBP, speed galore). Baty? Slow. Vientos? Slow. Neither are above average defenders.

Promote Jett and Nick. Tong? AAA will tremble.

We Have guys that hit home runs. I want guys who get on base and run, run, run. Speed kills. Of all the baby Mets I want to succeed the most is Acuna. I love his defense and he is FAST

Alvarez sent down, Senger up

I will give you this

This team has enough current talent to make the playoffs

There is no way they will miss that

They need to at least bump up top prospects NOW for the second half of the season.

Then players like Tong, McLean, Williams can be added for the playoffs at, at least, the pen, pinch hitter. Pinch runner, late inning defensive relief
