The Buffalo Bisons' off day today couldn't come at a better time.
The Herd was swept in a four-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens, which concluded with Tuesday's 10-6 loss before 6,379 at Fifth Third Field.
Three Buffalo pitchers combined to give up 18 hits, including four to No. 9 hitter Max St. Pierre. The win was a season-best sixth in a row for the Mud Hens. It's the first time the Bisons have been swept in Toledo since joining the International League.
The Bisons connected for 13 hits. Andy Green homered off the scoreboard in left with one out in the third giving the Bisons their first run.

Eric Brown (5-13) took the loss for the B-Mets, allowing five runs and seven hits in 1 1/3 innings in relief of starter Michael Antonini, who tossed three shutout innings but was hit by a pitch in the top of the fourth. Reliever Justin Jones (4-10) earned the victory for Harrisburg, striking out four over 4 2/3 shutout innings. The B-Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first when Tejada scored on a flyout by Lucas Duda. They added another run in the second inning on an RBI single by Tejada that scored Mark Kiger to make it 2-0, but the B-Mets mustered just two more hits over the final seven innings. Note: Jim Ed Warden was transferred to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday. He had made 20 appearances with the B-Mets, pitching 25 1/3 innings.

The Brooklyn Cyclones saw their bats wake up against the Muckdogs Tuesday night, to the tune of 14 hits and 15 runs in a 15-11 victory.

Just one night after being shutout by Hudson Valley, the Cyclones’ bats dominated the Batavia bullpen—scoring 14 of their 15 runs in the last five innings after starter Derek Hooker was out of the game—overcoming another poor pitching effort by the Coney Island team.

The Muckdogs lineup struck early and often, scoring in all but three innings and totaling 19 hits and 11 runs on the night.

In the bottom of the first, two new faces on the Muckdogs got the scoring started. Jon Edwards, formerly of Single-A Quad Cities, doubled home Matt Adams, playing in his second game after being promoted from Johnson City in the Rookie League, for his first RBI as a Muckdog. Ryan Jackson scored earlier in the inning on an errant pickoff throw by Cyclone starter Wes Wrenn.

The effect of the baseball amateur draft can be felt more than ever this season, writes Buster Olney of espn.com. The average age of a major league player dropped to 27.7 in 2008, over a year younger than 2007. While the As, Twins and Marlins have been building their team with inexpensive, team-drafted players, the big market teams have finally taken notice and doing the same. The amount of investigation into a players in increasing too, with teams' not just scouting the players on the field anymore, but evaluating how the interact off the field as well.
