LAST GAME: Binghamton led 4-3 after five innings, but Bowie scored five unanswered to send the B-Mets to their eighth consecutive loss, 8-4. Eddie Kunz drew the loss after permitting five runs, four earned, over five-plus innings. With the game tied at three after four innings, Hector Pellot tripled to center to open the Binghamton fifth. Three batters later, Marshall Hubbard came up with a clutch two-out double to plate
Pellot with the go-ahead run. The Baysox answered with three runs in the sixth, helped along by a Josh Stinson throwing error on a Pedro Florimon Jr. bunt. Joel Guzman paced the Bowie attack with a pair of hits and a game-high three RBI. Binghamton committed a season-worst five errors, which led to two unearned runs. Tim Bascom notched the win for Bowie with five innings of four-run work. The Baysox bullpen held the
B-Mets hitless over the final four innings to seal up the win.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brad Holt is due to make his sixth start of the year. The righty gave up a season-high six runs on seven hits over four-plus innings in his last go-around at Trenton May 15 in a losing effort. He is 0-3 with a 10.95 ERA in 12.1 innings. Last season, he made 11 starts for Binghamton with a 3-6 record and a 6.21 ERA in 58 innings. He is considered the No. 5 prospect in the Mets system by Baseball America. Holt was drafted by the Mets as a first round supplemental pick in 2008, going 33rd overall out of UNCWilmington.
RHP David Bromberg takes the ball for the Rock Cats for the eighth time tonight. He has lost two straight starts including his last one at Harrisburg May 16 when he tossed five innings and surrendered just two runs on four hits. The erratic righty has walked four or more in each of his last three starts. Bromberg starred with the Fort Myers Miracle (High-A) last season, chalking up a 13-4 record with a 2.70 ERA in 27 appearances, 26 starts. In 153.1 innings, he struck out 148 and opponents hit just .224 against him. For his efforts, the Los Angeles native was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year. Bromberg was signed as a draft-and-follow in 2006 after being drafted in the 32nd round of the June 2005 draft.
CRAZY EIGHT: After a 19-12 start, the B-Mets are reeling have lost eight in a row following an 8-4 loss at the hands of the Bowie Baysox last night. It is the longest losing streak since Binghamton lost eight straight July 25-August 1 during the 2005 season.
ERROR-PRONE: The B-Mets committed a season-high five errors yesterday, upping their season total to 30. Prior to the meltdown, Binghamton was the third best team defensively behind Portland and Trenton. They are now sixth (.979).
