Barret Loux:
5-17 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/17/phillips-66-big-12-baseball-weekly-awards-5 - Texas A&M’s Barret Loux and Nick Tepesch (Missouri) share the Pitcher of the Week accolade for games of May 10-16. . Barret Loux, Texas A&M, RHP, Jr., 6-5, 215, Houston, Texas/Stratford. Loux tossed his first career complete game, a shutout, in Friday’s 7-0 win over Oklahoma State. He held an OSU team, which entered the weekend with a .311 average, to just four hits (.129 average) while allowing one walk and striking out seven. Just one runner reached second base on the night (fifth inning). In addition, Loux got to a three-ball count only six times. It was his fourth straight victory as he improved to 9-2 on the year.
Devin Lohman:
5-19 from: - http://baseballdraftreport.com/2010/05/19/2010-mlb-draft-top-30-college-shortstop-prospects/#more-1426 - Potential Starters - Long Beach State JR SS Devin Lohman (.456/.518/.612 – 18/24 – 7/16) - Lohman has a similar scouting profile, but less ultimate upside; good, but not great speed and lesser long-term power projection put him below Jurica for me. He’s still a candidate to start professionally if he lands in the right situation. The strong recent history of Long Beach shortstops certainly won’t hurt come draft day. Good size (6-3, 207) and a strong arm make Smalling look like a player capable of playing third professionally, but his skill set is still far better suited for shortstop. Good footwork and soft hands should keep him up the middle going forward, but that aforementioned potential for defensive versatility should help him in his cause for playing time at the next level. It may be a little strange to see a player like
Kaleb Cowart:
5-20 from: - link - Cook (Ga.) High School took another step toward the Class AA baseball title yesterday as they defeated Pike County 5-3. Senior Kaleb Cowart hit a two-run homer and a double in the Game 3 win. Game 1 and 2 were played in a doubleheader and the Valdosta Daily Times reported that Cowart went 2-for-6 with a single, double and RBI. More importantly, Cowart struck out 11 for the 8-6 win in Game 2. Cowart gave up two runs on a two-run homer.
Austin Wilson:
5-21 from: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=10931 - Throw Tool: Austin Wilson, OF, Harvard Westlake HS (CA) - On a tools level, no high school player ranks with Wilson. He's 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, he has plenty of strength and leverage in his swing, is an average to tick-above runner, and his arm is an absolute cannon, and the best in the draft. He's a raw product with length in his swing and the need for at-bats against better competition in order to improve his pitch recognition, but the athletic package alone will land him early in the second half of the first round.
Cody Stanley:
5-21 from: - http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/beyond-bryce - To rank draft-eligible catchers, I used all that information (offense, defense and baserunning) for each of the last three seasons, with more recent seasons weighted more heavily. The familiar names land near the top, but not always in the order you'd expect. And a stats-only approach unveils some sleepers for draft day. 2. Cody Stanley - UNC Wilmington - Next to Grandal, Stanley is the best all-around backstop. His baserunning numbers are the best of this group (including 12 steals in 14 tries this year)—obviously not the most important thing in evaluating a college catcher, but they may suggest he'll age more gracefully than others. He's a bit small (listed at 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11), but his demonstrated skill puts him clearly in the top three here.
