Game #24 • Tuesday, May 1, 2012

LAST GAME: A single from Ryan Rohlinger bounced past Jefry Marte at third in the eighth to plate the go-ahead run and an error by Marte later in the play allowed an insurance run to score as the B-Mets fell to the Akron Aeros 3-2 last night at Canal Park. Binghamton mounted a two-out rally in the ninth against Rob Bryson, but stranded the tying run at third when pinch-hitter Rafael Fernandez struck out. Darin Gorski allowed one run over six innings in a no-decision for the B-Mets. Steven Wright logged 6.1 innings in a no-decision for Akron. Edgar Ramirez took the loss for the B-Mets.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (2-1, 7.56) makes his fifth start of the season and first against the Aeros. After two shutout performances, Peavey has been roughed up in his last two starts, allowing a combined 16 runs on 20 hits in six innings of work. He allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits over 2.1 innings in loss in his previous start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on April 26. A sixth-round draft pick out of Oregon State University, he split last season between the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) and St. Lucie Mets (High-A). In 14 starts in Savannah, he went 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He walked just 11 in 78.0 innings. He was promoted to St. Lucie in late June and finished 2011 in the Florida State League. At High-A, he went 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA.

LHP T.J. House (0-0, ---) makes his Double-A tonight for the Aeros. The southpaw started his season with the Carolina Mudcats (High-A) of the Carolina League. He went 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four starts. In 25.0 innings, he struck out 26 and held opponents to a .189 batting average. House was promoted to the Aeros on April 29. Selected in the 16th round of the 2008 draft out of Picayune HS (MS), House is in his fourth season of pro baseball. He debuted with the Lake County Captains (Low-A) and pitched two seasons with the Kinston Indians (High-A).

FALLING SHORT AGAIN: Last night was the second time on the roadtrip the B-Mets have stranded the potential tying run in scoring position in the ninth inning. On April 28 against the Erie SeaWolves, Pedro Zapata was left at second in a 3-2 loss.

NABBED AGAIN: B-Mets centerfielder Matt den Dekker was thrown out by Roberto Perez when he tried to steal second base in the fifth inning. It was the fifth time this year he has been gunned down. He is tied with Eury Perez of the Harrisburg Senators for the league lead in that category.

GETTING ON BASE: B-Mets third baseman Jefry Marte has collected at least one hit in all but two of his games in a B-Mets uniform. He has reached safely in 18 of his 19 games. He is currently working on a seven-game hitting streak. His 10-game hitting streak earlier in the season is the second-longest in the Eastern League.

LOW-SCORING AFFAIR: Last night’s 3-2 loss, was Binghamton’s third-straight one-run game against the Akron Aeros. Akron leads the Eastern League with eight one-run victories. Binghamton has gone 1-5 in one-run games and still have not won a contest when trailing after seven innings (0-10).

MAKING THE MOST OF IT: The Akron Aeros have scored the second-fewest runs in the Eastern League. They are averaging just 3.4 runs per game, but are second in the league with 15 wins. They have lost just 6 times, the fewest in the league.

FLIP-FLOPPING: The B-Mets have alternated between a win and a loss over their last eight straight games. They have not won consecutive games since ripping off four in a row against the Sea Dogs from 4/19-22.

A PAIR OF SPEED BUMPS: Greg Peavey has allowed 14 earned runs over his last two starts. He watched his ERA jump from 0.00 to 7.56 in the process.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets and Aeros continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound for Binghamton against LHP Giovanni Soto.
