Brandon Nimmo
(via FB) - Thank u to
evryone 4 the well wishes in ST! Looking forward 2 & very excited for this
great opportunity to learn & continue moving forward!
I had to take a shower after watching 60 Minutes. Frankly, I have no faith that anything is going to change here. There will always be cheaters. Teams will always overpay them when they become free agents. And sleeze balls will live in Miami and sell drugs to ballplayers.
The Yankees need to add up the bucks left on this contract, deduct the money they don't have to pay because of the suspension, and write Rodriguez a check. Then, they need to tell him to go away and we should never waste a word on him again.
Steve asked - Morning Mack, hope your feeling well this Sunday morning.

You want some
questions, lets see if I can help?
Would you look at
Flores body type, and the fact he's a good hitter. Would Ryne Sandberg be a decent comparison to him?
Mack – Hey Steve. Actually, I have been feeling good lately.
My diabetes is in check, but I’m prevented (by my family and doctor) from
driving any great distance (or alone with my grandchildren) due to my anxiety
and bi-polar issues. We’ve reached a med-balance that still allows me to be
creative but takes away 60 mile trips to the Sand Gants games, no less spring
training. I’m not on a ‘pitty party’ rant here… just answering all parts of
your question.
Regarding Flores, I never heard the Sandberg reference
before. He’s always come off, to me, as more of a 'Baby Bull'. I think the Mets
missed a big opportunity last year and should have played him at first base for
the entire season in Las Vegas. Now, they have to consider sending him back
there to learn the position.
Being an optimist, do
you believe some of the bad luck the Mets have had lately is about to change?
Mack – Well, as the old saying goes, ‘if they had no bad
luck, they’d have no luck at all…”
I’m not sure if it’s luck. It just maybe bubbling talent.
2014 should (at some point in the season) bring Noah
Syndergaard, Rafael Montero, Jeff Walters, Jack Leathersich,
and Cesar Puello to Queens. That would encompass
20% of the 25-man. That’s pretty heavy.
The Matt Harvey injury has
pushed the level of 2014 success back, but, baring another run of ridiculous injuries,
this year’s team looks to be much more competitive than the one turned out last
year.
How that translates vs. the league could only be speculative
at this point.
Do you think Sandy and
the wonder twins, will sign any of our top pitchers to extensions? Like Niese
was signed to?
Mack – Well, they sure as hell should try.
First thing first… sign Dillon Gee.
He just may be the best pitcher they have had in the last three years. Get as
many of these guys under your wing as you can. It not only saves you money but
it makes them attractive to other teams (of course, you need to trade them when
the oven is hot).
Start with Matt Harvey. He
loves being a New Yorker. How the hell is he going to go to those Ranger games
if he’s playing in Seattle? And forget the injury. No one is going to laugh at
you if a long term deal goes belly up here. You’re paying Bobby Bonilla, aren’t you?
Zack Wheeler and Noah Syndergaard don’t
become a free agent until the next decade so we can deal with these issues
after the ones I listed above.
Oh, and while you’re at it, you might want to consider a 3-4
year deal for both Daniel Murphy and Bobby Parnell.
Ernest asked - Amongst
all the other questions about the Mets outfield, present and near future, I was
wondering. .......what happens if Matt den Dekker actually
stays healthy, and produces? Didn't he once project as a solid starting
centerfielder? We can’t platoon everybody.
Mack –Well, the worst thing that happens to den Dekker is be
will be a $400,000+ part-time MLB player that gets free food and travel.
Seriously, he definitely looks like the odd-man out right now,
sort of like Josh Satin was 18 months ago. These
two guys basically did what was asked of them in the minors only to come up
against a brick wall when they got to the majors.
A ‘lucky’ injury got Satin some bat time and he seems to be
insured a future with this team, though it also looks to be in a backup role.
Den Dekker (it’s a capital ‘D’ when you start a sentence with
his last name) has a bigger problem. He will play 2014 as a 26-year old and he
still has only 58 major league at-bats (.207). He actually needs a full,
productive year at Legas to remarket himself in 2015… at 27… yikes.

Den D had a pattern of mastering level n, getting promoted and struggling at level n+1 for a couple of years. I was looking forward to that pattern continuing last year, in which case HE would have been Lagares, but he broke his hand.
He could be the 4/5 OF (with EYJ) out of ST, but for his sake I hope he’s the FT CF in LV in May. I’m thinking he will be sharing CF with Lagares by mid-summer. Maybe sooner.
I have been an advocate for signing Drew, bite the bullet and give him 3 years. However, after reading the article on Fangraphs this morning I'm changing my tune. I'll preface this with the assumption that the Mets actually have enough money to act like a mid-level market. It seems that the most bang for the dollar could be had by signing Kendrys Morales and give him 1B. Get rid of the rest of the mediocre clutter including Davis and Duda. Morales gives the Mets a plus .800 OPS, switch hitter, and he's only 30. At Al parks he can DH. Keep Satin and go get a lefty for the bench,. Still don't have a traditional lead off hitter, but a lineup that goes Murphy, Wright, Morales, Granderson, Travis, Young, 2-7, is pretty deep. This makes the Mets better than adding Drew.
I have a question Mack i dont know if you can get an anwser on him because his way down the system but if you can his a pitcher named Jose Medina. He had excellent stats and i believe his only 17 yrs old.
Jeff -
I haven't read the Fangraphs article yet but I will.
Interesting plan you have there.
Greg -
Medina was signed last year as a bomus baby 16-year old and simply pitched lights out. These kind of things just aren't done in the DSL.
I have nothing on him other than eh same stats you see.
I do know he came to the States for a mini-camp so know the way to the airport :)
Jeff C-
Having read the Fangraphs article, I still advocate for signing Drew. I can't help but feel that Steamer is under-rating Drew and over-rating Tejada. Even if Tejada puts up numbers like 2011/2012 and Drew only has an average year, their AVG and OBP will be similar, but Drew's SLG will be higher and therefore so will his OPS. You'll get more HRs and RBIs from Drew as well as more runs scored. Perhaps, most importantly, Drew can lead off while Tejada is not a lead off hitter.
Regarding Morales, I would not sign him under any circumstances. The Mets will get better production from any of their 1B possibilities; Davis who finally finds his game, or a Duda/Satin platoon, or even a Davis/Satin platoon.
