Binghamton 6 - Richmond 1

Greg Peavey fired eight strong innings and the Binghamton Mets backed him with an eleven-hit attack in a 6-1 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets have won eight of their last nine games and improved to nine games over .500, a new high-water mark in 2014.

Binghamton hopped on Richmond starter Jack Snodgrass in the second inning. Kevin Plawecki and Dustin Lawley hit back-to-back singles to put two on with nobody out. Following a Travis Taijeron walk, Rylan Sandval doubled home two runs to make the score 2-0. The B-Mets weren’t done, though. With two outs, Kyle Johnson hit a single, plating Taijeron and Sandoval and doubling Binghamton’s lead. Brian Burgamy ended the night for Snodgrass with an RBI single. The lefty lasted a season-low 1-1/3 innings and gave up a season-high five runs. Binghamton sent nine runners to the plate in the inning.

The lone Richmond run scored in the fourth. Myles Schroder tripled off Peavey with one out. The next batter, Ryan Lolis, grounded out to the shortstop, Matt Reynolds. Schroder went home on the play to cut the deficit to 5-1.

However, the B-Mets got that run back in the fifth. Matt Clark, Plawecki and Lawley all singled to load the bases with nobody out. Taijeron then hit a base knock to bring home a run and extend the Binghamton advantage to 6-1.

That was more than enough for Peavey (5-1). The righty went eight innings, his second-longest outing of the season. He fired 79 of his 104 pitches while allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out five en route to his fifth win in his last six starts as a B-Mets. Cody Satterwhite pitched a perfect ninth to nail down the victory.

On the other side, Snodgrass (7-1) picked up his first loss of the season after allowing seven of the eleven batters he faced to reach base. Four Flying Squirrel relievers stopped the bleeding, giving up just one run the rest of the way.

POSTGAME NOTES: Brian Burgamy extended his hitting streak to five games…all eight position players tallied at least one hit…B-Mets starters have had quality starts in eight of the last ten games.
