The Cardinals scored 4 times in the bottom of 5th
inning to break open the game, as they beat the Mets in St. Louis Monday night
6-2. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and had another shaky outing. Aaron Craig’s RBI single in the bottom of the
first made it 1-0 St. Louis. After the Mets
tied the game in the third on a sac fly by Curtis Granderson, the Cards made it
2-1 in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by the red hot Matt Adams. In
the 5th inning the Cards put up the 4 runs on 5 hits knocking deGrom
out of the box. The Mets made it a 6-2
affair with an RBI pinch single by Chris Young in the top of the 8th,
but that was the end of the scoring. deGrom went 4 1/3 innings allowing 12 hits
6 runs (all earned) he walked 2 and struck out two. He takes the loss falling
to 0-4. Carlos Martinez started for the Cards and only allowed 1 unearned run
in 4 innings but rookie southpaw Nick Greenwood making in Major League debut
went 3 1/3 in relief allowing just 1 run picks up his 1st major
league win he’s 1-0. The Met bullpen
shined once again with 3 2/3 innings scoreless with 1 2/3 from Dana Eveland and
an inning apiece from Gonzalez Germen and Josh Edgin. Craig went 3 for 4 with 2
RBI and Adams 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to pace the offense for St. Louis while the
Mets only managed 5 hits on the night. With the loss the Mets are now 31-39 on
the year and are 15-19 on the road. Tuesday night is game two of the series Jon
Niese (3-3 2.54) goes for the Mets,
Michael Wacha (4-5 2.88) goes for the
Cardinals.
