Saturday night at Petco Park, the Friars got solo homers by
Yasmani Grandal, Will Venable and Seth Smith as the Padres snap the Mets 4 game
winning streak beating the Mets 6-0.
Dillon Gee started for Mets and gave up 2 of the long balls and fell
behind early allowing a run in the 2nd, two in the 3rd
and a run in the 4th. The
Padres made it 5-0 in the 6th when Smith homered off Carlos Torres.
A passed ball by Travis d’Arnaud in the 8th allowed the 6th run to
score. Tyson Ross had the Mets guessing
all night long. Ross lasted 7 innings allowing 4 hits walking 3 and striking
out 6. He gets the win improving to 8-10. Gee went 5 allowing 5 hits, 4 runs (all
earned) and struck out 8 suffering the loss. He falls to 4-2. The Mets are shut out for the 8th
time this year. On the night the Mets only managed 5 hits. Their biggest threat
came when they loaded the bases in the top of the 7th, but Ruben
Tejada struck out to end the threat. With the loss the Mets fall to 46-51 and
21-28 on the road. Sunday afternoon it’s the rubber game of this series Zach
Wheeler (5-8 3.90) goes for the Mets,
Odrisamer Despainge (2-1 1.35) goes for
the Padres.
