Wednesday afternoon in Seattle, Bartolo Colon retired the
first 20 batters to face him until a Robinson Cano single, but behind the great
outing the Mets beat the Mariners 3-2.
The Mets scored single runs in the 1st, 6th and 7th
innings. Eric Young Jr. walked and then stole second (his 26th steal
on the year) then Daniel Murphy brought in the first run in the first with an
RBI double. In the 6th Juan Lagares hit a short sac-fly to center to
score Lucas Duda from third. In the 7th David Wright added an RBI
single. Colon tired in the 8th
allowing a walk and 2 hits include a RBI double by Brad Miller off the top of
the right field wall. Colon came out after 100 pitches and was replaced by Jeurys
Familia who after a the Mets won a contested ground out to short by Willie
Bloomquist , which brought home the 2nd run, struck out Endy Chavez
to keep the Met lead. Jenrry Mejia pitched out of trouble in the 9th and earned his 13th
save. The Mets have now won 2 straight and are now 3-3 on this road swing.
Colon gets his 9th win. He goes 7 2/3 allowing 3 hits 2 runs (both
earned) he walked 1 and struck out 5. Rookie Taijuan Walker takes the loss, he falls
to 1-2. The Mets are now 48-53 on the
season and 23-30 on the road. Next up
the Mets start a 4 games set at Miller park in Milwaukee. Thursday night Dillon
Gee (4-2 2.92)goes for the Mets, Matt
Garza (6-7 4.04) goes for the Brewers.
