Despite getting outhit by the Thunder 12-18, the B-Mets made their hits count. Timely hitting and a 4 run 7th inning lifted the Mets to a big win.

What is going on with Dilson Herrera? 3-5, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R. Since joining the Mets from Pittsburgh in the Buck/Byrd trade, this kid has upped his game and done nothing but hit. The little guy (listed at 5’10”, 150 lbs) is hitting .353 with Binghamton, despite a -4.7 yr. age differential. (I.e. he is 4.7 years younger than the average AA player.)

Great to see Herrera doing so well. He's played himself into the conversation - either a part of the future or as a major chip. Chalk another one up for SA.
Great to see Conforto doing so well out of the gate. Move him up and see how he does. If he continues, I'd like to see him begin next year at AA. He could be ready for a MLB job in 2016.
Nimmo has struggled but seems to be adjusting finally. He should also probably start 2015 at AA, move up to AAA late in the year, and be a super2 call up in mid 2016.
This organization is in the verge of something special and it could position itself to be good for a very long time. There are just a couple of holes to fill:

We just need that big bat and a legitimate leadoff hitter.
I left out Lagares and Murphy for now because we don't know what trades are coming. If Murphy can bring back top prospects I think he's gone. If the team acquires that big bat and it's an OF, I think Lagares becomes a casualty because Nimmo and Conforto are Sandy's guys.
Whatever happens, we are well positioned to be a force for many years as long as the proper finishing touches are put on this offseason.
I would love to see Muno break out and steal the 2B spot from murphy. If he did, he is an ideal leadoff candidate. Great OBP, switch hitter, steals a few bags, has nice pop and if he figures out the BA, he could hold down fort until Herrara is ready and then be perfect utility man. I don't think he is on 40 man and has to be coming up on Rule 5. I think he is sleeper, so would love to see him added and get a look in Sept. Anybody know who is Rule 5 this year? I think Matz, but would like to know who else
Good stuff! In regards to Herrera, I'm really surprised the Mets aren't playing him at SS wit the idea of keeping him there full time and potentially being the answer to the question, "who will replace Jose Reyes," who has been gone for 3 seasons now. Unless of course the small sample size they saw earlier this season was enough for them to conclude he's not a SS, which would be disappointing.
Also, I'm surprised this wasnt mentioned earlier, (unless of course I missed it) but the effect Brady Aiken not signing with the Astros will have on the Mets off season plans. Why you ask? Well if the season will end today, the Mets would have the 10th worst record, but would have the 11th overall draft pick since the Astros would recieve the #2 selection as compensation for not signing Aiken, which would mean that if the Mets were to pursue and sign a free agent that declined a qualifying offer (Hanley Ramirez-stop laughing, JJ Hardy, Melky Cabrera, Nelson Cruz), they would lose their 1st round pick, not unlike the Michael Bourn fiasco, which turns out was a good non signing since Michael Bourn has declined and we picked up Dominic Smith, who has been hitting well in Savannah and could turn out to be a top flight player for us if all goes well.
Not that I think they would pursue and offer a contract to any of those guys, but it certainly makes it easier on Sandy and the Wilpons to use that as an excuse as to why they aren't pursuing these types of players since it will effect the long term future of losing the #11th pick.
The Closer
MLB announced the rule change that extended it not to the top ten picks but top ten worst records. basically failure to sign a pick in the top ten extends the protection to the 11th pick. so it would be protected. the roll over picks do not count into how many picks are protected. but if you look at m. Bournes stats this old rule probably worked out in the mets favor
I'm past rooting for the Mets to tank and get higher draft picks, but adding yet another top 10 talent to the #4 system in baseball would be a huge boon for this team, whether it's another high upside pitcher or a middle infield bat.
I'm not too worried about losing a pick, HanRam is the only FA I'd have any interest in and I think the Yanks will gobble him up.
Robb, I wasn't aware of that, I was hoping to not have to deal with top ten protection any longer, but hopefully this is the last year of that problem for us, but thank you for the clarification. And yes, that did actually save us from signing Bourn and ended up giving us Juan Lagares instead after all was said and done. You'd think at this point he earned the starting CF job with his defensive ability alone, although he looks lost at the plate right now, he still has the 3rd highest avg on the team only behind Murphy and Wright.
