Keith Law's Top 50 Prospects

16. Noah Syndergaard

"He's still mostly fastball-changeup, but will show a curveball and slider, neither of which are plus -- though the curveball does have some depth thanks to his size and really easy, fluid delivery. His curveball, a grade-40ish pitch in high school and early in his pro career, is already solid average, and plays up because he gets on top of the ball and releases so close to the plate; hitters swing and miss at it like it's a sharper, harder pitch."

32. Michael Conforto

"He doesn't have huge upside, but he's very close to major-league ready and should be at least an above-average regular with a higher ceiling if the power exceeds expectations. The Mets should fast-track him if his performance warrants it."

34. Brandon Nimmo

"I don't see him staying in centerfield and he might only be a moderate hitter for average, but very high OBPs and 20-plus homers a year with great defense in right would make for an above-average regular."

49. Dominic Smith

"Smith's lack of power output in low-A is partially the result of his home park, as Savannah is a terrible place for left-handed power hitters, and partially the result of a whole-field approach that has Smith hitting for average while striking out at a pretty low clip -- well above the league mean or median despite his youth. Smith does have plus raw power, but we may not see much of it until he escapes the Sally League next year, much as Nimmo's power didn't come out until he left Savannah this spring."

Interesting to see Conforto at 32. That is truly high

"Klaw", someone who has been down on the Mets system for years, is finally starting to like what he sees. He's always been high on Smith ever since before last year's draft and he loved the Conforto pick. Curious to see where Herrera and Matz, two guys he hasn't been high on, rank on next year's list.

Makes sense, Lagares stays in CF, Nimmo slides to RF and hits 2nd, Conforto provides LH power from the 5th spot from LF, and Smith eventually takes over from Duda.

Btw, 4 in the top 50?! On average a team should have 1-2 in this range. Says a lot about where we are as a system and especially about out position prospects .
