LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets were subdued by stellar pitching performance from Hoby Milner in a 1-0 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils the season finale between the two clubs, on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Milner held the B-Mets to just three hits in a complete-game shutout. Steven Matz took the hard-luck loss. He tossed seven inning and allowed one run. Hansel Robles gave up one hit in a scoreless inning of relief. Kyle Johnson led off the top of the ninth with a double, but was stranded on the bases. They drop to 1.5 games back of Portland for first place in the Eastern Division and their magic number to clinch a playoff spot remain at four.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Greg Peavey  makes his 16th start of the season and his second straight against Erie. He took on the SeaWolves on Wednesday, August 13. He allowed five runs in six innings and was tagged with the loss in a 7-4 Binghamton defeat. Four of the runs were allowed in the first inning. In ten frames against Erie this season he’s given up seven runs and struck out eight. Peavey has been a strong pitcher on the road. He is 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA in games played away from NYSEG Stadium. The 26-year-old was taken by the Mets in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State University.

ERIE STARTER: RHP Jeff Ferrell toes the rubber for the 23rd time this season and his second straight against Binghamton. He allowed four runs in five innings and got the win against the B-Mets on Wednesday, August 13.  The SeaWolves came out on top 7-4. In five appearances against Binghamton in 2014, Ferrell is 1-3 with a 7.92 ERA. The righty has surrendered 34 hits in 25 innings and the B-Mets are hitting .315 against him. The 23-year-old was taken by Detroit in the 26th round of the 2010 draft out of Pitt Community College in North Carolina.

HERE WE GO, AGAIN: The marathon that is the Binghamton-Erie 2014 season series starts it’s final three games on Monday. The B-Mets are visiting Jerry Uht Park for the third time this season. The team is 11-8 against the SeaWolves in 2014 and  5-2 on the road. The two squads matched up last week at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton dropped two of three for it second series loss to  Erie this year.

GOT THE MAGIC: Binghamton’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot stands at four. The team is second in the Eastern Division and has a 12.5 games lead over New Britain for the final postseason position. The B-Mets are also just a1.5 games behind Portland for first-place. They are on the brink of clinching a playoff spot for the second straight season. They won the Eastern Division in 2013.

CONTROLLING THE BEAST: Binghamton leads the league many  major offensive categories, but was shutout for the sixth time in 2014 on Wednesday. In the game, the B-Mets were held to just three hits. It was the first time Binghamton didn’t score a run since July 5 against Erie.

NO TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE:  LHP Steven Matz put up his third straight strong performance on Sunday. The southpaw has allowed just one earned run in his last three starts. That’s a span of 20 innings.

CONTROLLING THE LEADERBOARD: The B-Mets continue to dominate both sides of the leaderboard. The team is first in runs, home runs, OPS, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. They also rank second in batting average at .275, just one point behind Bowie for the top spot. The pitching staff is tied for the third lowest whip. They have the third most strikeouts and has walked the second fewest batters this season.
