LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used a strong offensive performance to top the Erie SeaWolves, 11-4, on Monday at Jerry Uht Park. Travis Taijeron went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. The home run was a three-run shot in the ninth inning. Jayce Boyd was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored.  T.J. Rivera also collected three hits and score twice. Greg Peavey tossed 5.1 innings and struck out five to pick up his tenth win of the season. The B-Mets went 7-for-15 with runners in scoring position. They trimmed their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to three. The squad is one game back of Portland for first place in the Eastern Division.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Michael Fulmer makes his Double-A debut with Binghamton on Tuesday. The righty made his first 19 starts of the season with St. Lucie (High-A). He went 6-10 with a 3.97 ERA in the Florida State League. He’s allowed just seven home runs this season and only one in his last eight starts. That dates back to June 8. He held righty’s to a .235 average, but lefty’s tagged him with a .329 clip. That includes seven doubles.  Fulmer had committed to Arkansas before deciding to go pro. The 21-year-old was a compensation pick by the Mets in the 2011 draft out of Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma.

ERIE STARTER: RHP Wilsen Palacios takes the hill for the 24th time this season and the 23rd start. He’s making his second straight start against Binghamton. He went six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits on Thursday, August 14. He didn’t factor into the decision in a 9-4 Binghamton win. In three other starts this season, Palacios is 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA. He’s allowed eight runs in 15 innings and has walked 11 batters. The Guarena, Miranda, Venezuela native was signed by Detroit as a free agent in 2013.

HERE COMES THE BOOM: Binghamton’s offense had another strong performance against Erie on Monday. The team tallied 11 runs on 15 hits. They are hitting .309 against the SeaWolves with a 24 home runs and 47 doubles in 20 games. That’s good for .487 slugging percentage. They have walked 82 times in those games and have scored more than ten runs in eight games. The 12-8 through the first 20 match ups and have a 6-2 mark at Jerry Uht Park

GET THE CHAMPAGNE READY?: Binghamton’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot stands at three. The team is second in the Eastern Division and has a 13 game lead over New Britain for the final postseason position. The Rock Cats have to complete two games on Tuesday. That means the B-Mets can punch their ticket by the end of the night. They are also just a one game behind Portland for first.
TRAVIS TAMES THE SEAWOLVES: Binghamton OF Travis Taijeron went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI on Monday. He improved his average to .351 (20-for-57) against Erie this season. The slugger has an OPS of 1.132 in those games. He has five home runs and six doubles in 15 matchups in 2014.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: RHP Michael Fulmer is the 15th player to make a start for Binghamton this season. B-Met starters are 53-38 with a 3.88 ERA in 2014. They have 598 strikeouts and have walked only 184 batters. The group has allowed three runs or less in each of the last four games.

NO DOG DAYS FOR DARRELL: Binghamton OF Darrell Ceciliani is riding a seven-game hitting streak. He’s hitting .356 (21-for-59) in 14 games in August with three doubles, a triple and ten runs scored. He has a base knock in all but one game this month. That includes seven multi-hit performances.

While Michael Fulmer struggled a bit this year in Lucie, good to see him get promoted, at least for this AA start.

Fulmer had one goal this year and that was to stay healthy... which he seems to be accomplishing.
