LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position in a 2-1 loss to the Harrisburg Senators, on Friday at Metro Bank Park. All the runs were scored in the first two innings. Gabriel Ynoa took the hard-luck loss. The righty allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings. Austin Voth struck out eight batters in 5.1 frames  and gave up one run. Brian Burgamy went 1-for-2 to extend his hitting streak to a season-long 12 games. Dustin Lawley drove in Burgamy with an RBI double in the first inning for the team’s only run. Four of the team’s five hits were doubles. Binghamton’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at 12.
BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Rainy Lara makes his 17th start of the season and his second against Harrisburg. The righty didn’t factor into the decision in his last outing. He went seven innings and allowed just one run on six hits and struck out seven batters in a 2-1 Binghamton win over Bowie on Saturday, August 2. Lara won his only other appearance against Harrisburg this season. He tossed 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He also struck out seven batters in the 5-2 B-Mets victory on May 10. Lara was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on October 31, 2009.

HARRISBURG STARTERRHP John Simms toes the rubber for the ninth time this season and the first time against Binghamton. Simms took the loss in his last start. He allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 3.2 innings against Reading on Monday, August 4. The Senators lost the game 5-1. Since making his first start with Harrisburg on June 27, Simms has held opponents to one run in five of his eight starts. Simms started the year in Hagerstown (Low-A) where he made three saves out of the bullpen. He went 2-4 with a 4.36 ERA with Potomac (High-A) before moving to Double-A. He was selected by Washington in the 11th round of the 2013 draft.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: Last night’s performance by Gabriel Ynoa continued a streak of six straight fantastic outings by Binghamton starting pitchers. The unit has allowed three earned runs in the last 38.2 innings. The stretch includes 34 strikeouts and just five walks. They have not surrendered a home run in the last five games. Overall, B-Met starters have a 3.85 ERA on the season.

BURGAMY STREAKS: Binghamton INF Brian Burgamy went 1-for-2 on Friday to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He’s hitting .419 (18-for-43) in that time. It’s tied with Matt Clark for the second longest streak a B-Met batter has put together this season. Matt Reynolds holds the longest stretch at 14 games.

THE WINDS OF CHANGE: Binghamton INF/OF Dustin Lawley went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Friday. He’s now 10-for-his-last-35. This comes on the heels of a 1-for-31 stretch. Lawley ranks fifth in the league in extra-base hits with 45.

LOOKING FOR MAGIC: The B-Mets saw their magic number to clinch a playoff spot drop to 12 on Thursday. The team has a 12 game lead for the final playoff sport in the Eastern Division. They are also just three games back of Portland for first place. Binghamton won the Eastern Division last season behind a franchise-record 86 wins.

POWER OUTAGE: Harrisburg held Binghamton to just one run on Friday. It’s only the fifth time since July 1 that the B-Mets have been kept to one run or less. The team still leads the league in runs, home runs and slugging percentage. They are also second in batting average.
