The Mets (59-47) split the four game series with the Reds, falling 3-2 in the two team’s final meeting of the 1969 season. Visiting New York struck early. Singles by Tommie Agee and Cleon Jones put runners on the corners 3B Ed Charles followed with one his own to drive in Agee. Ron Swoboda’s RBI base knock brought Jones in from 3rd

After New York staked starter Jim McAndrew to a 2-0 lead out of the gate Cincinnati chipped away with single runs in the 1st and 3rd to tie it up. Johnny Bench’s 7th inning longball off McAndrew put the Reds in front to stay, 3-2. Hard-luck loser McAndrew fell to 3-4 on the season.
The Mets finished 6-6 vs. the Reds for the season.

On the road in Houston, the Cubs upped their lead to 9 games, edging the Astros, 5-4.
