Fort Myers 4 - St. Lucie 0

Brett Lee pitched a complete game shutout to lift the Fort Myers Miracle to a 4-0 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Friday night at Tradition Field.

Lee became the first pitcher this season to go the distance in a nine-inning game against the Mets. The only other pitcher to toss a complete game against St. Lucie is Tim Shibuya of the Miracle, but that was in a seven-inning contest on June 21.

Stuart Turner provided the go-ahead hit in the seventh inning, an RBI triple with two outs and two strikes that brought home Travis Harrison to make it 1-0.

Turner’s triple was the last pitch thrown by Mets starter Kevin McGowan, who took the loss despite making his best start of the season. McGowan had only allowed two singles to that point. Unfortunately, he began the seventh inning by walking Harrison. It was just his second walk of the game.

The Mets had a great opportunity to tie the game in the eighth, but with one out and runners at the corners Jared King grounded into an inning-ending double play for the second time in the game.

Overall, Lee induced three double plays that ended innings.

The Miracle added three insurance runs in the ninth off of Paul Sewald to pull away. Sewald’s wild pitch allowed Harrison to score from third to make it 2-0. Later in the ninth pinch runner Jason Kanzler stole third. He came home when Albert Cordero tried to throw Adam Brett Walker out as he tried to steal second.

Max Kepler lined a two-out RBI triple down the left field line to bring in Walker and complete the scoring.

Lee ended up throwing 116 pitches, 77 for strikes. He walked three and struck out four. All four strikeouts came after the fifth inning.

The Mets outhit the Miracle 7-6. Gavin Cecchini and Jeff McNeil each had two hits.

The Miracle took two of three in the series. It was just the second time since 2011 the Miracle won a three-game series at Tradition Field.

With the loss, the Mets dropped 4.5 games back of first place Palm Beach and Bradenton in the Florida State League South Division. - team press release
