6/5/15

Mets Minor League Games - 6-4-15

Gnat win offsets 3 other losses.

Minor League Player of The Night - John Gant and Luis Cessa for 2 excellent starts.

Honorable Mention - Patrick Biondi, Johnny Monell, Eudor Garcia, and Jon Leroux with 3 hits apiece.

AAA - Las Vegas - (29-26) 9 - Memphis (29-26) 10

    LHSP Darin Gorski - 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 5.71

Let's stop pretending Black or Parnell should rejoin the Mets any time soon. They're having the worst outings of any of their minor league pitchers.  Stay out of NY until you two can pitch effectively again. The Mets pen is fine as is.

Johnny Monell 3-5, .375, and Matt Reynolds 2-4, 3 RBIs, as his bat seems to be starting to reawaken.

Hitters woke up, but Black (4 runs in 1/3 inning) and other pen pitchers followed another mediocre Gorski outing. An 8-2 lead triggered away.

AA - Trenton (30-24)  2  -  Binghamton (26-27) 0

    RHSP Luis Cessa -  7.2-IP, 4-H, 1-R, 8-K, 1-BB, 2.81

    LF Michael Conforto  -  2-4, double, .353

    RHRP Paul Sewald  -  0.2-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 1.42

Without Conforto, a no hitter.  Instead, a 2 hitter. Nice pitching performance by Luis Cessa, for naught.

A+ - Palm Beach (25-29)  3  - St. Lucie (27-27)  2

    RHSP John Gant -  8.0-IP, 5-H, 2-R, 9-K, 1-BB, 1.93

    2B Dilson Herrera -   1-3, double, .333

    C Travis d'Arnaud -   1-2,  .125

Yay, Travis and Dilson.  Dominic Smith 16 game hitting streak ends.  Start another one, Mr. Smith.

Great start by John Gant, but pen lost the game in 9th.

A - Savannah - (27-27) 4 Greenville (31-23) 2

A source of mine has told me that the player to be named later in the RP Alex Torres deal will be Savannah Sand Gnats starter Brad Wieck. We should find out as soon as the draft is completed next week.

    RHSP Martirez Arias -  4 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 R, 3.55

Ricky Knapp pitched 5 great innings in relief.  3 hits apiece for Eudor Garcia, Jon Leroux, and Patrick Biondi (.315). Plus the 14th double of the year for Becerra.

Savannah, with by far the worst record of any of the 4 teams just 3 weeks ago, has gone from 9 under .500 to .500, and nearly caught the team with the best record, Las Vegas.

Rookie - DSL 1

Rookie - DSL Mets 2 (3-2) 5  -  DSL Yankees 2 (3-2)  4

Mack - The Mets super bonus babies, SS Kenny Hernandez (2014 - $1mil) and SS Yoel Romero (2014 - $300K) went into this game a combined 0-16 (.000).

    RHSP Joel Romero - 3.0-IP, 3-H, 1-R, 3-K, 3-BB, 3.00

    DH Rigoberto Terrazas  -  3-4, 2-R, 1-RBI, .438

    C Carlos Sanchez  -  1-3, 1-R, 1-HR (2), 1-RBI, .350

GOAT: Yesterday Bobby Parnell, today Vic Black. Sad.

Let me add that the DSL Met 1 team pounded out 15 hits and walked 7 times in a 9-6 win, moving to 4-1. Winning percentages of .800 are very nice. The two teams combined for 7 errors, an indicator of why they call the league "Developmental."

I kn8w they call them rehab games for a reason, but while some discredit Leathersich's progress this year, despite 1 outing of 24 since early spring where he's allowed a run, consider Parnell and Black rehab combined stats:

21 innings, 24 runs, 31 hits, 19 Walks, 15 K's. Way, way beyond horrible. No wonder the minor league team's records are slipping. They are double handedly dragging them down.

I'm happy with Jack and Hansel right where they are.

In fairness, Black has been bad, but Parnell has made Brad Holt and Eddie Kunz look like Matt Harvey and Jake deGrom.
