LAST TIME OUT: The B-Mets managed only five hits and were shut out by the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 3-0, night at NYSEG Stadium.Wilmer Flores went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and logged seven innings at first base in his first Major League rehab appearance. Matt Oberste was 2-for-4 with a double, the only Binghamton extra-base hit. Tyler Pill (3-4) struck out four and allowed two runs in six innings, but took the loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara takes the mound for the B-Mets, hoping to improve upon his last two outings. Lara has allowed 12 earned runs in 7.1 innings in the two starts. in Akron he surrendered three home runs and was tagged for six runs, five earned, on eight hits in six innings. Lara took a no-decision in an 8-7 Binghamton loss. He faced Richmond three times in 2015 and went 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA. Lara has a 3.05 career ERA against the Flying Squirrels.
RICHMOND STARTER: LHP Andew Suarez makes his third career Double-A start and his third start with Richmond this season. He made five starts with San Jose (High-A) and went 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA before joining the Flying Squirrels. Suarez last pitched in Trenton and allowed eight runs, five earned, on ten hits in 4.1 innings and took a no-decision. The lefty was drafted in the second round by the Giants in 2015 and went a combined 2-0 with a 1.60 ERA in 11 appearances and eight starts across three levels last season.
BLANKED: Binghamton was shut out for the third time this season . All three shutouts have occurred in a two week period, 5/10 at Reading (9-0), 5/13 at Portland (1-0) and 5/24 vs. Richmond (3-0). The B-Mets were shut out nine times last season.
E...NOBODY: The B-Mets put a zero in the error column for the fourth consecutive game . The last defensive miscue by a Binghamton fielder was made by Dominic Smith in the seventh inning at Akron on 5/20. The errorless streak now spans 35 innings. Binghamton has committed 28 errors over 43 games in 2016, the fewest in the Eastern League.
MAYDAY: 3-0 loss dropped the B-Mets to 7-16 for the month of May after they went 11-9 in April. The 16 losses equals the most that Binghamton recorded in a single month in 2015. Last year’s May saw the B-Mets go 14-16, the only month in which they were below .500.
THE NEW GUYS: The B-Mets have received four new players in the past two days with LHP Alberto Baldonado, RHP Tim Peterson, INF Dale Burdickand MLB rehabber INF Wilmer Flores traveling to the Southern Tier. Baldonado made his Double-A debut and allowed one hit and one run in 1.1 innings. Burdick is 0-for-2 in two pinch hitting appearances.
