Scarlyn Reyes pitched his best game of the season to lead the St. Lucie Mets to a 3-1 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Friday at Tradition Field.
Reyes logged seven innings and scattered five hits while allowing one run. He did not walk a batter for the second consecutive start and he struck out four. Reyes has won his last two starts, both against the Miracle.
Champ Stuart went 2 for 4 with a game-tying double and he scored the go-ahead run plus an insurance run. Amed Rosario was 2 for 4 with the go-ahead RBI.
The game got off to a shaky start for Reyes. The first batter of the game Tanner Witt singled into right field. Two batters later Nick Gordon crushed a RBI double to put Fort Myers up 1-0.
That would be it for the Miracle. Reyes recovered to toss six straight scoreless. He got Gordon to fly out to the track with two in scoring position to end the third. In the sixth Chris Paul lined out to left to strand runners at second and third.
The Mets tied the game 1-1 in the third. Tomas Nido led off with a ground rule double against Felix Jorge. Stuart then drove in Nido with his own ground rule double. Amed Rosario’s slow rolling infield single with two outs in the inning plated Stuart to make it 2-1 Mets.
Stuart led off the eighth with a single, moved to second on Luis Guillorme’s sac bunt and scored on another Rosario single to put the Mets ahead 3-1.
Corey Taylor tossed a scoreless ninth for his third save.
Jorge allowed three runs in seven innings in the loss.
Kevin Taylor went 1 for 4 with a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
