The Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the St. Lucie Mets 8-2 on Education Day at Tradition Field on Tuesday.
The first three batters of the game reached base and scored against Josh Prevost, and the Mets were unable to rally. Arturo Rodriguez lined a two-out, two-run single in the frame to put the Hammerheads up 3-0.
Rodriguez laced another two-out RBI single in the third to make it 4-0.
The Mets were no-hit through the first four innings but scratched across runs in the fifth and sixth to cut into the deficit. Kevin Taylor led off the fifth with a double and scored when Michael Katz hit hard ground ball to third base that was booted into center field by Rehiner Cordova.
In the sixth, Champ Stuart doubled and came home on Taylor’s two-out single to make it 4-2.
The Mets had two on with one out in the seventh, but reliever Kyle Fischer coaxed an inning-ending double play from catcher Dionis Rodriguez, who was playing in his first FSL game.
An error on Jhoan Urena to open the eighth led to three unearned runs against Corey Taylor and a 7-2 lead for Jupiter. The Hammerheads added a run in the ninth.
Jupiter starter Dillon Peters limited the Mets to three hits and two runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings.
Prevost took the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits in four innings.
For the second straight game, the Hammerheads pounded out 14 hits. John Norwood went 4 for 5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI.
For the Mets, Taylor was 2 for 2 with a double, walk, run and RBI.
Wuilmer Becerra went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts to end his 13-game hitting streak. He’s still batting .404.
Amed Rosario went 0 for 4 and ended his six-game hitting streak.
